The Stolen Election, Part One: GOP Thugs Stop Recount

I hear it quoted that, by all accounts, media recounts have unequivocally proven that Gore won the state. I hear it quoted that, by all accounts, media recounts have unequivocally proven that Bush won the state.

What IS the truth, anyway?

As I recall, there was only one comprehensive attempt by various media organizations to “recount” the Florida votes:

The Florida election review was developed by the AP, CNN, The New York Times, The Palm Beach Post, The St. Petersburg Times, Tribune Publishing, The Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post.

This consortium hired the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago to view each uncounted ballot and gather information about how they were marked. The media organizations then used computers to sort and tabulate votes, based on varying scenarios raised during the post-election scramble in Florida.

With regard to the vote-counting itself, I don’t think a discovery of “unequivocal truth” is possible.

yeah

we're fucking brutal

The U.S.

trampling on the rights of so many

I can't take it anymore - how can I live in a country that does this?

dude - if ur not happy to live in the U.S. - if u truly believe that the stuff u spew - u gotta find a better place - there's gotta be a better place

u and the 80 shit on the U.S. - every fucking day - with a new lie - a new 1/2 truth - u should be proud of what this country is - instead u smirk at it

and it's pathetic

I'm so glad in the real world ......................

u really need to find an island where u can start ur own country

ur own tribe

complaining about Bush's management of the war is one thing

u take it way too far

Another typical chance response, "If you don't like it here in a country I have used to cheat, lie and steal to gain control in, then you can get out!"
Why don't you respond to the original post, whoops you can't because you have nothing intelligent and factual to dispute the facts. You are no different than the schoolyard bully that takes your food money, punches you in the face and says, "Get over it!" Further proof repuglicans are soulless.

sorry to be so "typical" :=D:

but

not suggesting random go anywhere - unless he wants to

but he is SOOOO unhappy - perhaps there is another place he would be happier

happy to have him here in the U.S. if he wants

but if u read his posts, he seems to complain about everything

this suggests that he is in search of something ................ better

and I support him in that search

VEDDY INT'RESTING!

Thank you for posting that article, I think my years-old question is answered at last.

However, I still feel 100% certain that the election was stolen. If people hadn't been wrongly prevented from voting, with these hurdles thrown mostly at populations who may have been far more likely to vote for Gore, it would have been no contest. I still find myself unsure about the Florida A&M students thing (where NONE of them could vote), not because I doubt that it happened, but because I would have thought it would have gotten FAR more than the minuscule 1 or 2 mentions I heard.

Something like this must never happen again!

But I know that it will...

I think its old news, people should just get over it, move on, worry more about the present and future.. Bush is alsmot done with his 2nd term.. There is not 3rd terms for presidents.. horray.

Actually, I have to disagree here. While I don't agree that the election was stolen. I think there were enough irregularities (comming from both sides) and given the mess election laws around the country are. I think its VERY important to still be talking about this, especially as we are now in another Presidental election cycle.

Yeah, Mow, you are right. It doesn't do much good to rehash the past, but, it sure as hell pisses me off that Gore caved so quickly. and declared Bush as "mah president".
He could have put up a fight and it would have gone a long way to show his
supporters that he tried.
Same goes for Kerry in '04 ---he conceded so fast, that it seemed he really didn't want to win.
Hopefully, the politicians will demand a paper trail in the next election.

That's it in a nutshell.

Why is it so many would rather we not discuss this anymore?

"Old news?" All history is "old news."

Maybe they're just uncomfortable being reminded that their guy cheated; especially after the mess he's created. I can understand that, I guess.

Move on? Sure. Forget? Never. The story will be told over and over again with the hopes that such a travesty never happens again.

But you're right...it'll happen again.

It ended up in the Florida Supreme court and the US Supreme Court!
What a joke -- They're stacked with totally biased GOP hacks.
Gore didn't stand a chance

Right, except you don't know what you're talking about. The vote to not order a manual recount was:

Yea
O'Connor R
Kennedy R
Rehnquist R
Scalia R
Thomas R

Nay
Ginsburg D
Souter R
Stevens R
Breyer D

So, GOP appointees actually split their vote while Democratic appointees voted en bloc. Hmm.

Oh, by the way, in your rush to paint the court decisions as made by GOP hacks, I assume that you do realize that the Florida Supreme Court found in favor of Gore, right?

yeah, right!
they made it look like some semblance of justice, but it was everything but!!
