I was quite bored this evening, and wasting time on cam4 *|* and I was annoyed that after checking all the bookmarked cams, all were offline and it was so tedious to click all that bookmarks to check the cams. Soooooo I got out notepad (stupid windows machine) and wrote a small php script that reads usernames from a textfile and checks on cam4 if the cams are online. The status of each cam will be displayed, and if it is online a link to the cam4 and a preview pic displayed. So I started adding all the hot guys to the textfile. But that was too tedious as well, so I wrote a small routine to add usernames on the fly from the online list. Then I realized hitting refresh to check whether someone got online is annoying as well, and I made the script self-refreshing.
And now I am thinking about creating RSS output so that I can have a Live-Bookmark, and only see the online cams as entries. I have the feeling this script will become huge :)

When you get that CAM4 script working let me know ;)

I waste plenty of time on that site as well.

:rotflmao:

I thought I was bad installing OSes when I was bored

LOL

SPeaking of which, IE4 is installing itself on NT4 Terminal Server as I type.

Solaris is churning in the background, and freebsd is next.

Haha! I found it! I remember you had written about this.

I was thinking of doing the same thing and was wondering what constraints you used to determine if a cam is broadcasting.

Right now, I'm parsing the whole html (preg_match) of the user for code indicating there's a broadcast going on.

One drawback is the execution time - ~1 second per query.

Any pointers?

I created a bookmarklet to extract pics of profile pages of a well-known dating site to "DownThemAll".

After cam4 changed their code for the Xth time I eventually stopped updating the script ;). But yeah - I requested the complete html for the user profile page. Which is where you can see if a cam is online, too.

:the software did a search of the imdb and gave me choices based on the file names and the folder names - then it would download the imdb blurb and pic for the movie

What did you use for this?, sounds like what I need for my Film Archives (All. 3TB. Of. It.) lol

Cam4 Question Re: The things you do, when you are bored

After cam4 changed their code for the Xth time I eventually stopped updating the script . But yeah - I requested the complete html for the user profile page. Which is where you can see if a cam is online, too.

Theoretically, cam4 does this for you. When you open your list of favorites, it should tell you whether they're broadcasting or not. I have found that they are sometimes inaccurate. (For "sometimes," read "nearly always.") For that reason, I click on every name that shows as being on line but not broadcasting. About 10% of the time - not very high odds, I admit - the person is actually broadcasting.

It's much more common to find people listed as broadcasting who aren't. Disappointing, but not as bad as missing somebody you really like because their listing was inaccurate.

I also wonder if any of the people who show up on the faves list as offline are actually broadcasting. I don't check that because it has to be done from the "manage profile" page, which means leaving the cam I'm watching, or else typing in every name in a new window. That takes a long time because I have a lot of favorites. :D

Anyway, I don't know if this is a tech question or not, but I wonder if anyone else notices this problem and has a way around it. It's time-consuming to check

I think it's a matter of timing. When the database was queried, the user was offline. By the time the information is presented to you, the user's online.
