The Thread

I have a cure for the overpopulation crisis. Lets just put all idiots to death. But then there would be no one to entertain us. I can live with that.

What about them?

Specifically how bipartisan politics are likely to kill any honest attempt by our government to effectively move forward on the issue of energy, and oil dependence.

And polka-dots all the way...

What are your thoughts on splitting the United States into a couple smaller countries?

I think there would be a lot of smaller countries with the exact same problems.

Everyone in the United States donates their IRS refund to help solve the homeless problem. In one year, there would be no more homeless people. (That's what my college professor said when I took a class about this.)

It could work....

Next problem, will the chili cheese tater tots I'm making give me heartburn...

Who puts pie on the same plate as french fries?

If people didn't need their income tax returns to pay off credit card balances they might not mind giving it to the homeless.

You're supposed to be solving problems, not talking about your gambling addiction...

Anyway, the people of Florida will more than likely be using their returns to help the homeless... 1 in 6 homes are in default or being foreclosed.

I think you mean PARTISAN politics. Bipartisan politics is the cure. If Hitler can utilize synthetic fuel, why can't we?

Here are my thoughts on death penalty reform from my LiveJournal page. I'm for the death penalty, but not without some MAJOR, sweeping changes first.

Writer's Block Question Of The Day - July 16th, 2010:
What is your opinion of the death penalty? How important is this issue in deciding which political candidates you support?

My answer:
I am of two minds on this: Number One: if you murder somebody in cold blood or rape/molest an innocent child - and DNA can *prove beyond a shadow of doubt* you did it - I'd love to pull the trigger myself. (In Texas, we take a hard-nosed approach to justice - it's just our way.) But Number Two: at the same time, I know that there have been, that there are now, and will always be innocent people on death row who do not deserve to be there, and that those people will pay the ultimate price for a crime they did not commit.

I think that the way we prosecute death penalty cases needs to be seriously overhauled. I think there should be new uniform standards across the board in all of the 48 or so states that actually have the death penalty (I believe 2 do not have the DP at all - Michigan and one other state that doesn't come to mind at the moment). One of those uniform standards in my book would be - by default on every case - an 11-panel DNA test that is strictly monitored. I would call for a temporary moratorium on all executions in this country until every death row inmate's case in every state can be re-examined. If the 11-panel DNA proves they did it, let the appeals process and the execution go forward. The cases where it's still tough to reach a conclusion as to guilt or innocence, let the inmate have an open-ended indefinite stay of execution (for years, if need be) while we keep testing the evidence. If it ends up that the inmate ends up serving a life sentence by default, because it takes the government so long (years) to reach a decision, then so be it.

If it is proven that a still-alive innocent man or woman is indeed on death row, let the government pay them $300,000 for every year they spent on death row (and write a provision in the law that the attorneys will not eat most of that award settlement up in legal fees - the money should go straight to the individual). Some would argue that that would bankrupt some state goverments. My response to that: Well then, maybe the government will do a better job, next time. Because wrongfully executed people don't get a "next time". If we are going to put people to death, we had better make DAMN SURE that they are, in fact guilty of the crime we are executing them for.

Those are my thoughts, tell me yours. Click the comment button below. I'd love to hear from people on this issue. Do you agree with me, or disagree and why? Thanks.

Let's just make a gay republic and start bombing the other countries

^What's the effect? Turning all men into gay or killing those who're homophobic?

Well, my original idea is to destroy the others and set our kinds to be the ruler of the planets, but your idea of converting enemies into allies are good too! (!)

Here it is.

The goal is simple - we will use this space to solve all of the world's problems.

So let's begin. What's on your mind?

I'd say that in recent years, what I've termed 'runaway capitalism' has taken hold and is self-evident by the way the financial institutions have behaved during the global recession. If the world doesn't start putting limits on the size of corporations, then one day they'll become basically immune from any fine, sanction, break-up, or punishment, because they'd make sure that any attempt to do so would send the markets into free-fall. The stockmarket has become a place of hype and mania and obsessive speculation. The corporations use it to, for all intents and purposes, 'blackmail' governments by threatening the complete economic collapse of the country should they dare be touched. It's a one-way path to the eventual passing of power and control over the state from governments to corporations. When that happens, you'll probably get laws passed that forces impoverished people to invest and spend money. The fact that they don't have any money is no longer an issue - they remain in a perpetual state of debt for their entire lives. This is the sort of future we can look forward to. It's what happens when politicians and governments, who, despite all their faults, are nevertheless elected with a conscience and a sense of public duty, delegate their power to private organisations with no hint of humanity in them. They exist only to increase revenues and profits and turnovers and investments and market share etc. etc. etc. etc. This is what the single-minded pursuit of capitalism will bring to the world if people don't start waking up and realising it.

(and all of that is MY OWN thoughts - I don't rely on outside opinions to tell me what to think)

Erm, how is that for you, illgetbi?

Try this: I have a strong urge to perform a lens surgery on you because your avatar really looks like a cataract and I can't seem to divert this tingling desire :p

P.S. Not joking.

No need to. I'm a professional; you won't feel a thing

Now lie on the surgery table please and stare to the light

*pondering which scalpel should be used*
