The star of the 1965 International Auto Show was the Toyota 2000GT.

This is the Toyota that went from the track to the collector's garage and is now almost priceless.

I've never actually seen a 2000GT in person, only photos.

A true beauty. But Porsche? The inspiration looks more XKE to me.

BTW: have you been to the Ford Automobile Museum in Dearborn? I visited there last weekend. Many interesting cars, not the least of which was the Continental JFK was riding in when he was assassinated.

What a Coincidence!

The Ford Motor Company has been trying to reach car fans, (Like Me), who haven't made it to Dearborn - so they just opened their Century Portal.

It's called the Ford Heritage Vault, and it covers the first 100 years - from 1903 to 2003.

The idea is to stumble inside and get lost in Ford history. This is just the initial collection, lots more will be added in time.
Already I'm seeing content that I've never seen before, and things are just getting started!

A true beauty.

That's the first time I've heard that car described as being beautiful! It's ugly as sin, typical awkward Japanese styling of the era and certainly not in the same category as an XKE (pre '68), which is a stunning work of art.

My first time learning about the 2000GT was in the 1990's when scale models with blown out wheels were hitting the modeler's clubs.
Since many collectors made their models from scratch, I first thought these were just made-up.

I actually didn't know the 2000GT was a real car that made it's debut in 1965.
