This show has a massive gay fan base....but i only got basic cable. so is this like a gay themed medieval show or something?

i missed spelled tudors....my bad!

Yeah not gay-themed at all...just a bunch of nice eye candy to look at.

Yes, you did misspell Tudors....however, there is forgiveness if you get yourself an Oxford Dictionary. You might know the Tudors as one of the most influential, although short lived royal dynasties of England. Then again, you may not. Either way, Henry VIII probably has some historical resonance for you and is worth getting to understand better, particularly if you want to understand the origins of despotism in the 20th century.

Elizabeth I is arguably the finest product of the Tudor line.

It has a gay sensibility in that there's a load of good looking guys around. Plus it's like Dynasty with exaggerated women trying to stay or become a Queen, horny young studs and group infighting.

I don't especially like it as a drama. It's too slow and superficial. King Henry comes across as a pussy whipped light weight, who literally settles his differences by arm wrestling. He may well have been like that but I suspect that he was also instinctively at least more clever politically, etc. But maybe not.

There's lots of stuff on the series on the web. Make a point of checking out Henry Cavill as Charles Brandon, the Duke of Suffolk, Henry's oversexed childhood friend:

What gay affair?

One of King Henry's posse, William Compton, seduces the young court composer, Thomas Tallis. See:

*****SPOILER ALERT*****

Unlike the bare rumps and thrusting in the straight sex scenes, I don't remember there being that much to see in the Compton-Tallis relationship beyond kissing. Compton falls ill and dies and Tallis has a relationship with (and marries?) one of the ladies hanging around the court.

When Compton died, Tallis had a tantrum at his grave and I wasn't sure whether that was because he was upset at losing Compton or at being seduced by him or both.

I have no idea whether any of this is historically correct or whether Thomas Tallis was really gay or had gay affairs. In terms of this series, it would have been cooler gaywise, if he'd stayed on team. Unless he turns out to be gay (or bisexual), there aren't any other openly gay major characters in the program.

There as a funny moment in this week's episode, when King Henry (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) jacks off into a bowl held by a male servant, presumably to show how sexually frustrated he is because he's no longer having sex with Queen Catherine and Anne Boleyn isn't putting out yet. No money shot though.

Jonathan Rhys Meyer has a nice one. Someone better dig out that pic for this thread.

Here is a picture of the Real Henry VIII at around 30

Just wondering after they go through all the Tudors, Henry VIII, Edward VI, Queen Mary I and Queen Elizabeth I will they start a new series called The Stuarts?

Or maybe The Bushes....
