So it was inevitable...and with all the precautions in the world, being at a conference has landed me with the Omicron variant.

At least I am 7 shots to the good.

So now I am stuck for the next week at least.

If anyone else has had it, was there anything you have done to relieve symptoms?

I have the usual upper respiratory and cough and some headache and muscle and joint pain...but have no fever or sense of exhaustion.

My taste buds and smell buds have dwindled to the point where I can still tell if something is really sweet but not even if something is salty now.

I am NOT looking forward to a week of this.

Tylenol for the aches and cramps and dull headache.

The worst, for me, was the constant dry unproductive cough. Nothing helps.

The cough is no fun.

And I am masked because my partner is around me....although annoying too close....sometimes less than 6 feet away.

And he is immunocompromised.

I keep telling him to stand back.

I usually don't do Tylenol but think I might give it a try if you found it helpful.

Take your vitamins. A multi, like Centrum for Old Farts or whatever they call it. Vitamins and D. Lot's of fluids.

Done and done. Vitamin C, Vitamin D and a Guinness to wash them down...although I can't taste it....it was a test.

Might as well be drinking fizzy ditchwater.

The somewhat hilarious bit to all this is that because I am so late to the game, just about everyone I am communicating with is "Oh you think you don't feel well...well let me tell you about WHEN I HAD IT WAY WORSE".

I am now even more grateful for the pharmaceutical companies I have my retirement partially invested in that they came up with things to jab into me. If you haven't had all your doses, please get them...my sister is telling me about some deaths still where people just didn't get their shots.

I was lucky. I got it about 2 years ago and it was just like a slightly heavy cold. I did lose my sense of smell for a couple of months but that was the worst of it.
And I have had every shot that has been offered to me. I have COPD so anything to do with lungs is potentially fatal

I had (probably) Omicron in 2022, and I had the loss of smell. It was really weird expereince--I've had smell dulled by colds before, but never a total loss before. One plus: it made meal prep a lot easier since I couldn't really taste it! Just to keep things interesting to eat, I thought more about texture.

Day 3 and still here...although what doesn't ache today, hurts in some way.

I have found that Naproxen seems to work okay...besides straight old fashioned aspirin.

Like Kahaih, I am finding the dry, unproductive cough the worst symptom but really only have it bad when I am laying down.

Unfortunately, I have had to cancel a really important trip to Ottawa this week, and my appointment with the dentist this morning. But at least at this point, we aren't all being hooked up to respirators and sedated into a near coma to keep us alive.

The other thing? I can't drink tea at all. The only thing that appeals right now is the worst thing in the world...Coke.

This happened when I had bronchitis the last time as well.

When I have a sore throat, I often find that a cold fizzy drink hits the spot. Just go for the low sugar option.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Thanks.

We're stuck...my partner tested + this morning, so what's in the house is what we'll be eating and drinking for the next five or so days at least....fortunately we have a lot of food in the freezer and the fridge....I suspect his go to might be apple juice, so I have stopped drinking all of it.

Today, I have some vertigo and dizziness which I understand are not uncommon...still no taste or smell. I think my partner is still one day or so behind me so I get to warn him ahead of time about things to watch for.

We are in separate bedrooms with doors closed (until pushed open by cats) but both of us had fits of heavy coughing during the night so it wasn't the most restful.

My Mom has covid and I'm taking care of her and being careful. She has similar symptoms as those you described. No fever, but a sore throat and a bad cough. I give her Delsym cough syrup, throat lozenges, and naproxen. She's also taking Paxlovid which of course causes stomach trouble.

Even without...I had nausea etc., but my partner has full on vomiting.

The saddest part is that we were slated to host a dinner in Ottawa tomorrow evening...in honour of a very special occasion for the leaders of an organization we work with.

We have spent yesterday and today working with the restaurant to still have the dinner go ahead in our absence and then reaching out to the 10 guests coming into the city for the events.

A once in a lifetime moment....and here we are, sick. But still thankful we are at this point of the COVID trajectory and not the beginning.
