Russia tested a nuclear-powered missile. Not a nuclear warhead.

Trump beat his chest and declared that the "Department of War" would match Russia's testing.

Control of the US nuclear arsenal is under the Department of Energy. The staffing comes from the military but the experts on nuclear warheads is (or was) under a group of experts in the DoE.

And nearly 2,000 Sudanese Muslims were killed this week. Where's the outrage about those atrocities? Oh, that's right... there's no Islamic representation in the White House Office of Talking in Tongues and Snakehandling.

It has gold deposits. The key thing is that the east coast of Sudan borders the Suez Canal, so whoever controls Sudan has partial control of oil shipments through the Canal.

The western Press has focused on the Sudan/South Sudan conflict which is a Christian-Muslim conflict (guess which side the US was on?).

There's also a conflict in Sudan itself. If the word "Darfur" rings a bell, then that will give you an idea of how long the conflict there has been going on- since the Obama Administration.

Back when Obama was in the White House, a dictator aligned with Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood movement was in control. That dictator, who had ruled the country with an iron fist for 30 years, was overthrown in 2019 and a democratically elected representative government took its place. Then in 2021, the Sudanese military overthrew the democratically elected government and installed a military general to run the country. Since then, the country has been in a downward spiral. At one time, NGOs and the UN were in the country trying to support the democratic government and then after the military took over, the NGOs tried to help with the famine caused by drought and climate change. It's so bad now that the aid agencies have pulled out and the pullout of USAID was the last straw in the decline.

What is now happening is that there are two military factions fighting for control of the country- one side is backed by Russia and the other side is backed by the Saudis and the UAE. Anne Applebaum has written some very good stories explaining what is happening there and why it is so dangerous that the US is looking the other way while the carnage continues.

This goes back to a salient quote from Bill Gates commenting on what Elon Musk was allowed to do to USAID: "World’s richest man killing the world’s poorest children".

It's another example of the sickness of the Trump White House. You have a group of people trying to eliminate abortion claiming that they care about chlidren and support a "culture of life", while ignoring that millions of children are starving in Sudan. It's sick.

You know, women are repeatedly the victims of war crimes, of people going into neighborhoods or to villages or to houses and just committing acts of violence and also acts of sexual violence."

Yep... pretty much the post Cold War proxy battles over countries with either a natural resource we want, or a critical piece of land needed for transporting natural resources... or both.

One of the reasons that so many other countries are standing in line to do business with Trump is that he speaks a language they understand: "Pay me tribute and I'll give you business". China has another strategy: "Sell us your resources or allow our companies to operate in your country and we'll send money back to your country in the form of roads, bridges and utilities that our companies need to operate."

That's true of China's business in Africa. They tag is as "The New Silk Road" and they have focused heavily on Nigeria and Angola for its oil reserves. They avoid political entanglements and instead set up their companies and workers there to infuse large amounts of capital into local economies and into upgrading infrastructure. China's interests are probably more concerned with trying to keep the unrest localized to eastern Africa and away from their interests in western Africa. China's antagonism toward Islam has also made them more cautious about operating in northeastern Africa.
