The US goes to War

In the meantime, the US is out shopping the war as a 'boots-on-ground' mission...just not US boots on the ground and the ones I fear could be duped again would be the Kurds, even though they have been repeatedly used and abandoned by the US for decades.

It seems like the siren call of arms and ammunition to feed their fantasy of an independent Kurdistan leads them to again and again become involved in others' imperial wars.

“The U.S. remembers the Kurds in situations when they need an ally,” because the Kurds have experience and arms, said Yunus Abakay, a Turkish Kurd and a fellow at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter. But they’re also nonstate actors, who have no protection under international law, he said. “The U.S. can ask them to do something and when it’s done, walk away.”

The Kurds, he said, are “inexpensive political assets.”

I will watch this with interest. Maybe this time they will recognize that it will be pure slaughter by the Revolutionary Guard forces and stay out of it.

Trump pulled mine-sweepers from the Middle East and they’re sitting in Philadelphia as the Iran War rages

The Navy went through with plans to pull the ships from service despite ongoing tensions with Iran

As President Donald Trump warns Iran against using mines to threaten oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. Navy’s purpose-built minesweepers are sitting stateside thousands of miles away with no plans to put them to use while the war rages on.

As gas prices in the U.S. continued to skyrocket, Trump on Tuesday took to Truth Social to demand that Tehran “immediately” remove any mines placed in the vital seaway and to do so “forthwith” lest the Iranian military suffer “consequences ... at a level never seen before.” That warning came after multiple news outlets reported Iran had begun mining the strait, a narrow waterway that is the only passage from the Persian Gulf into open ocean.

The minesweepers were planned for decommision. They were built in the 1980s/1990s and have been patrolling the middle east for forty years, as a deterrent to keep crucial shipping lanes open around Saudi Arabia. In the past 4 months, the Trump Administration has returned those vessels to the US.

Now that Iran is laying mines in the Arabian Sea, the minesweepers aren't in the area.

Quietly, the injury and mortality numbers are increasing.

140 U.S. service members injured in Iran war

Roughly 140 U.S. service members have been injured in the 10-day Iran war so far, the Pentagon confirmed Tuesday.

Why it matters: It's the first official tally of U.S. service members wounded during the conflict.
  • President Trump has said casualties are expected during the war, which has now killed seven U.S. members.

Driving the news: Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell said eight service members are still listed as severely injured and are "receiving the highest level of medical care."
  • He added that most of the injuries have been minor, and 108 of those wounded have returned to duty.

The number of deaths is actually 8 but one of the deaths was classified as "non-combat".

I hate seeing US going to war with another country this needs to stop

omg stop.... :rotflmao:

The US has waged war with so many countries while pretending it hasn't over the last 70+ years that it boggles our imagination.

Tired of this shit.

Reminder: kick the ant bed over in the middle east, the ants bite us here in the US.

Attack at Old Dominion University leaves 2 injured, shooter dead

The campus in Norfolk, Virginia, went into lockdown Thursday after the shooting began at a building housing its business school.

A shooter at Old Dominion University in Virginia sent the campus into lockdown Thursday morning, leaving at least two people injured and the shooter dead, the school said.

Shortly before 11 a.m., university and Norfolk police and emergency personnel responded to reports of a shooter at a building that houses the university’s business school, the university said. The injured were taken to a hospital, where their conditions weren’t immediately known.

The shooter has been identified as an ISIS affiliate who was released from a US prison in Dec, 2024.

Trump has fired hundreds of experts from the FBI and the State Department who had expertise in monitoring Islamic radicalization. Stephen Miller has redeployed people who tracked radicals in the US into harassing immigrants who are mowing lawns or playing in high school mariachi bands.

We're going to see a lot of ants coming out of the ground to bite us. It's just beginning.

And more ants...

Iranian hackers take credit for attack on US medical equipment supplier that caused systems to go down

Stryker purchased Israeli medical technology company OrthoSpace in 2019

Hackers linked to Iran have claimed responsibility for a cyberattack targeting U.S.-based medical equipment company Stryker, resulting in its products going offline across its global offices.

Wednesday's attack left thousands of workers unable to access the company's systems, according to WOOD-TV.

Handala, the Iranian-linked hacker group, took responsibility for the attack in a social media post. It called the attack a retaliation "for the brutal attack on the Minab school and in response to ongoing cyber assaults against the infrastructure of the Axis of Resistance."

It continued, calling Stryker a "Zionist-rooted corporation" and "one of the key arms of the global Zionist lobby and a central ring in the 'New Epstein' chain." The hacker group’s logo appeared on Stryker company log-in pages following the attack, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Stryker purchased Israeli medical technology company OrthoSpace in 2019. The Independent has requested comment from Stryker.

And over 1200 Iranians have died.

Their blood be upon us, and upon our children.

If we have become the warmongers, then cursed be our lot and may our nation suffer until it redresses the crimes.
And 4 years ago, we were slamming Russia for starting a needless war that disrupted the global economy and would result in the deaths of over 1 million people.

Now, we're the ones starting needless wars, disrupting the global economy and which has the potential of killing a lot of people... and we have a group of people in power who can't give us the reason why they started it.

Oh, and don't let Israel and Netanyahu off the hook. Netanyahu has been using the "Iran is weeks away from having a nuclear bomb" line for nearly 20 years. Finally, the US elected a fool stupid enough to believe him.

It is an ill mwind that doesn't blow someone horrible some good. Eh Krasnov?

Oil. Dow.

Just like clockwork.

Declare victory and leave the Iranians in an even worse position because the US couln't sell this war to 'allies' and it isn't playing well among voters.

Now on to Cuba.

I have had a disquieting thought: if Cuba has any medium- to long-range missile capability, Florida is going to be fucked. We know the Trump administration goes after other countries’ leaders first, so why wouldn’t Cuba respond in kind? That means Mar-a-Lago would be a target, and probably his stupid golf course as well. Both are within miles of where I live.

And there are other targets in the state, like MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa and Cape Canaveral. And while they’ve at it, why wouldn’t they bomb the hell out of Miami to retaliate against all the anti-Castro Cubans who have been pushing the United States on policies that have made life on the Island so miserable for all these years?

I think I would worry less about missiles into Florida and more about mass migration into Florida.

The Republicans love to talk about securing the southern border but they have done nothing to fix "dry foot" immigration. Cuban mass migration has been in place since the Cuban Adjustment Act of 1966. Cuban-Americans vote overwhelming Republican, so Republicans have turned a blind eye to the millions of Cuban immigrants that have changed Miami-Dade county into a Republican dominated area and helped shift the entire State of Florida to Republican.

In the past 4 years, 850,000 Cubans migrated from Cuba to the US. Once they reach US soil ("dry foot"), they get automatic asylum and are on their way to legal status.

Further destabilization of Cuba is just going to increase the exodus from Cuba to Florida. The Keys are just 90 miles from Cuba.

I would agree.

Cuba is never going to fire missiles into the US. That day is long past.

Cuba's capitulation is a sure thing.

Their communist revolution is over and done. It will now become a dependency of an imperial US.

It will reduce China's influence in the region, because, as I have noted, the so called superpowers are carving the world into spheres of influence.

Once Cuba falls, expect Taiwan to be taken.

This would be a Republican wet dream.

Puerto Ricans residing in a US state can vote for President. They tend to vote Democratic.

If Cuba becomes a US territory again, this would mean that Cubans are granted US citizenship by default and if they emigrate from Cuba to a US state, they can vote for a Republican president. There's already 1.6 million Cuban-Americans in Florida, which is about 10% of the population of Cuba. Most of those Floridians have relatives still on the island who would love to come to Florida.

This would lock in Florida's 30 electors as Republican for the foreseeable future.

Aren't thay all so lucky that GQP consider them 'white'...and not swarthy Hispanics like Puerto Rico.

I agree that Trump wants to control the western hemisphere but I’m not so sure he is willing to cede East Asia to China. You know we Americans having our cake and eating it too as we believe that is our birthright. But in any case Cuba is different from Venezuela and Iran in that Cuba does not provide oil to China while the other two do so China has a greater interest there and one can’t help but wonder if Trump is ultimately trying to gain some leverage over the Chinese control of the rare earth minerals. It’s the way he thinks negotiating is fine as long as you have leverage cause he surely has shown he can’t negotiate jack shit without leverage just like any Joe off the street.

Trump wants control over both Iran and Venezuela and demands to choose who governs them, to China that has to look like an energy threat.
