The War To End All Wars

Remembrance Day

I wonder how many of the young folk of today understand the significance of this day...

One of my grandfather's uncle died on 16th July 1916 the first day of the battle of The Somme. He was just 19 years old. I can't help but wonder if he would have laid his life down so willingly if he had been able to see the feckless rebrobates who wander around the streets of the small English town where I live... young men who would drop you where you stood if you dared to look at them in the worng way... young men who aren't capable of comprehensive speech without using 'Fuck and shag and wanker and cunt!' (Sorry... I hate that C word!) in between every other barely English word... Young men who do not want to work, have no respect for the law and seem determined to have their way whatever the cost to the community... young men who are found in the local parks taking drugs and getting drunk almost every other night of the week...

When I think of those who died in the WW's I and II I am reminded of the words of a certain St Paul... 'The world was not worthy of them' and I find myself asking... just what kind of a society did they actually die for....

The kind of society where the people you mention have the right to do as they choose. Whether or not we like it, they still have a choice to do such, and at the end of the day that's what they fought for - so we can make the choices we do without bowing to an Idol of the Khaiser or indeed Hitler.

Mmmm... but I bet all those boys who fought in the last two great wars never imagined they were fighting for the rights of these little shits.

Typical! The Germans kick off (not one but) two global wars and us Chav's get all the shit.

Wow. That's not what I meant. All I am saying is, these brats in this day and age have no understanding of what it would be like to have to fight in a war to preserve your country and your very way of life. And the boys who did it then would probably be turning in their graves to see how disrespectful many of this generation are...

Yes, the Empire is gone forever.

So you have just discovered that "good ordinary people" never have any idea of what is going on in the world.

The past is another country. They had different customs, morals, and outlook on life. The Kaiser was the great grandson of Queen Victoria. So was the Tsar in Russia, in fact most of the old world royal families had some connection with each other.

Wars are started by people who want something to gain. People pay with their lives, and that is what we must remember. It is should be reserved for the very last option, and only used when all else fails.

That is what we should remember, not the might of nations, nor the foolish pride of man.

Chill hun, I was just 'pulling ya cock'!

The fact is, I was one of those 'little shits' getting pissed in the park and getting into fights. And I'm sure that 'back then' there were also little shits (in shorts and bad haircuts) getting pissed and also being disrespectful - although not on the awful scale it's present today.

However, myself and former 'little-shits' who i grew up with have gone on to become professionals have started their own businesses and/or have very good jobs and support a family.

I didn't appreciate what those before me ever did until I matured and realised what life is all about - and those little shits in the parks of today will probably realise it too. But suggesting that they fought and died for 'unworthy little shits' is a needless over-generalization of a ephemeral sub-culture (young Chav's). Some will grow up wasters (as have always been present in society)- many will grow up and make good with their lives.

That's what they fought and died for - freedom to make choices - even bad ones.

But it wasn't the war to end all wars.

That's the real tragedy.

Nope, the German's kicked off again.

And I don't believe that bullshit story that it was the Germans who initiated the famous football match on Xmas day - if you watch the video, it was Paul McCartney who kicked the ball onto the pitch - and you can't get more British than 'Macca'!

They shall not grow old,
As we who are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them
Nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
And in the morning,
We will remember them.

Lest We Forget

Well, maybe if things get REALLY bad (like it already is...) one day the government might do a bad lads army and decide to reinstate national service for all those thugs out there...

Well the military has to find more recruits (seeing as two thirds of the people who actually want to sign up are too overweight) and the prsions are over filling as it is, so this will kill two birds with one stone...

I agree with you 100% - the army provides training for careers too, many young people 'opt-out' of society simply because they don't know where they can fit in. I'm not one of those 'hug-a-hoodie' types, National Service can provide dicipline (much lacking) and also guidance.

Young offenders would be better off in such an institution, rather than locked up with their 'blads' and 'braps' learning even more ways to 'get away with it' from fellow imates.

I still think the guys that died will be turning in their graves.... Shame that my comment drew such a viriolic response frpm some guys! Take a chill pill !!!

Well perhaps they had more faith in humanity than you.

Let us remember that WWI was a needless war which the US needed not to get involve. The terrible designs of inept British victors divided up the Middle East and here we are in a mess because of them; the new religion of Marxism based on a greed worse than any thing capitalism could have constructed took off like wild fire only to destroy the lives of 300 000 000 people not counting Marxism's wars with various allies like Hitler.

And once again we see the western civilization in Europe and some in America walking away from cultural-political mass murderers and will one day have to fight the fight of all fights.

My Grandfather fought at Vimy Ridge, the turning point of the war. He was wounded there, shot in the face. The bullet entered at the left side of his nose, through the soft pallet of his mouth, blew out most of his teeth, exited under his chin, and entered his chest. He survived, but he had a lot of metal in him after that.

He went back to Vimy for the first time in the late 60s. The trenches and bunkers were still there. Grandpa couldn't go into any of them.
