The world to possibly end on 2012?

i really doubt the world will end in 2012...we're not that lucky, we'll have many more fruitful years of suffering and discrimnation on this god foresaken place...

I once saw a video about it...
that was scary.. even tho u dont believe it.. it's still scary
The video showed how the mayans knew everything that happened... since their calendar stop in 2012... some say its gonna be the end..

Still dont buy it, but anyway, I live and enjoy everyday
"Like Like you were dyin" in any circumstances... so i guess i dont care when the world ends

Nobody will see the end of the world, only the end of their life. You can see the end of your life right now if you would like, if you believe the world is going to end in 2012 I would recommend it.

I've been reading about it and, although the Mayan calendar is just that...a calendar, not making predictions like Nostradamus...it has been, apparently, accurate in terms of astronomical, cosmic events and on December 21st of 2012 a cycle will end and another one'll begin.
It seems that there IS going to be some major astronomical events on that date...the repercussions of such events are unknown. Maybe those events will mark a consciousness shift in mankind...as some say...wich seems more reasonable than to say the world's ending...maybe it's ending AS WE KNOW IT.

Apparently, 21 December 2012 is the start of the age of Aquarius, which brings about a great change for mankind. Can be bad, can be good. The hippies in the sixties thought it would bring "harmony and understanding, sympathy and trust abounding" and all that. Also, they thought the age of Aquarius would start some time around the late sixties. This new date is quite arbitrary and depends on a lot of uncertainties and pure guesswork.

I wouldn't climb into that bomb shelter just yet. The world has as much chance to end on 21-12-2012 than on any other date in the next couple of years.

But there are some dire predictions that New Age thinking associates with the calendar rollover.

1. Increased solar activity will be seen where solar flares and sunspot activity will disrupt radio wave transmissions.[this is happening presetnly]

2. A rare astronomical alignment will occur on December 21, 2012.[this will happen]

3. Our present time is a transition period between the 4th earth and the 5th earth marked by social chaos, environmental destruction and war.

4. December 12, 2012 is the moment of rebirth for the earth when the solar meridian crosses the galactic equator and the earth aligns with the " center of the galaxy".

5. The energy that comes from the once in 26,000 year alignment will open "a channel for cosmic energy to flow", either cleansing the earth or destroying it.

6. The alignment convergence holds the possibility for the people of the earth to enter a new consciousness on a higher level than the present 4th earth material "dark side" consumed with greed. This means the "dark side" will not be overcome, but it will be transformed through a "fusion" of forces.

Here are some events predicted for 2012 that have been meshed with the Mayan calendar throughout cyber space:

January - a rogue asteroid approaches the earth
February 6th - the date of the asteroid impact on the earth
April 27th - the start of the crossing leading to the cosmic convergence
November 13 - total eclipse of the Sun and the Sun and Moon align
December 20th - the earth with begin 60 hours of darkness
December 21st - the convergence hits its mark and the 5th world cycle begins with the Galactic Alignment and galactic center releases its energy toward earth

The Mayan Calendar is just that, a calendar, not volumes of coded prophecies like Nostradamus. The Mayans delineate periods of time , eras, cycles and then show how certain time coordinates with astrological events and alignments..winter solstice, spring solstice and so on. A pseudo-science has been birthed by the media and various urban legend seeking individuals who have sought to gain wealth and notoriety from the Mayan Calendar.

It seems the flagrant misperceptions concerning the Mayan Calendar have provided a nice income from some adventure hunters, who have popularized the mythology of an ancient people.

That is what I read too...
It's the end of the world as we know it, we'll still be around...

But still, it's hard to believe

I am a man of minimal needs so if the cave has fire (heat), ice (a/c), and a generator for my pc, I am fine with it. Oh yeah, I hope there is a lake so I can fish.

How many of these predictions came true?

9 Aug 1970: Fidel Castro assassinated, by a woman.

1973: Communism falls. Secessionist black state of Mississippi formed.

7 April 1975: San Francisco wiped out by earthquake.

27 Aug 1977: Lago Maggiore, Switzerland, boils as a result of violent volcanic action which continues for six weeks and kills thousands.

1979: Juvenile delinquency problem solved by 'ray treatment' which converts all transgressors into 'meek conformists'. This may be a slightly off-target prediction of the publication of Anthony Burgess's A Clockwork Orange in 1962.

Late 1970s: Antigravity discovered by female Nebraskan physicist.

21 Jan 1980
: New York City is abandoned, owing to its growing tendency to sink into the sea. A replacement is constructed further inland -- 'at great expense,' says the prophet, and I believe him.

28 Nov to 21 Dec 1980: Pittsburgh, USA, suffers uncontrollable cannibalism after 'a sudden release of gas from a large chamber' caused by the folly of hubristic science. 'Over one thousand flesh-mad and blood-crazed men will wander through the streets suddenly attacking unsuspecting victims.'

1981: All previous forms of birth control are superseded by putting contraceptives in the water supply and (to nobble those who drink only beer) adulterating the electricity grid with 'certain ionic particles that prevent conception'.

1982: Rogue planet named Bullarion hurtles past Earth causing worldwide earthquakes and storms, destruction of cities, changed shorelines and the rising of Atlantis.

11 Feb to 11 May 1983: St Louis, USA, suffers uncontrollable female baldness thanks to 'gaseous fumes polluting the city's air', caused by the folly of hubristic science. 'Beauticians will be beaten, slashed and shot. Divorce courts will be swamped with irate husbands seeking freedom from their bald-headed wives.'

1987: Atomic holocaust -- somewhat disruptive except in Wyoming, where they have particularly splendid nuclear shelters.

1 May 1988 to 30 Mar 1989: United States suffers uncontrollable lust owing to 'clouds of an aphrodisiacal fragrance' released by the folly of hubristic science. 'Many men will flagrantly expose themselves in public.'

18 Oct 1988: Giant meteor strikes London, leaving a crater 'eight miles square'. (America is probably too busy exposing itself in public to notice this incident.) This is a Good Thing, because a large public park will be constructed around the 200-foot bulge of the meteorite and become a fantastically popular tourist attraction.

9 June 1989: Denver, Colorado, falls victim to 'a strange and terrible pressure from outer space, which will cause all solids to turn into a jelly-like mass.' Citizens who through diligent overeating have already become jelly-like masses may well get away with it.

10 Mar 1990: First Interplanetary Convention held, with human colonists from the Moon, Mars, Venus and Neptune gathering on the only logical neutral ground for all their diverse habitats ... Las Vegas.

1 June 1995: Utopia on Earth is very nearly achieved thanks to the elimination of pyjamas, nudity taboos, fossil fuels (in future stoves 'the yellow flame is solar'), dietary bulk, disease, crime, competitive marketing, eyeglasses, tight bodices, basketball, football, tennis, boxing, racing and natural insemination.

1999: Over 200 space colonies now exist. Their inhabitants are the only survivors when, on 18 August, a mysterious space force sucks away all Earth's oxygen -- with the side effect, unpredicted by purblind and hubristic science, that Earth loses its gravity and wanders off into space. A Bad Thing.

As funny as they appear, these were serious predictions made by The Amazing Criswell.

Of course, he was the 'Voice of Doom' in Ed Wood's Plan 9 from Outer Space, so take these predictions any way you wish. (I wouldn't take them too seriously if I were you.)

This whole 2012 always interests me, the fact that doom has been associated with this year is fascinating.

I don't think the world is going to end, but I do believe that something big may happen at the start of 2012.

There are not enough roll-eyes emoticons on the Internet.

I was watching something about this on the History Channel the other night and maybe I was only half paying attention, but I don't understand how the Mayans were so clever to predict the end of the world, but they couldn't predict their own demise? Not only that, but they were completely fooled by the arrival of Spanish explorers into thinking that it was the return of their savior? And none of them saw that coming? Something about that doesn't sit right with me.
I guess that just like we can predict when a blind force of nature is going to hit us, but can't predict when some humans are going to crash a plane against a building.
However, what do we mean, and what did the Mayans mean by "end of the world"?

Ummmm. . . Wasn't that the Aztecs?

Well, so long for turning 24 then, oh well.....

I dont believe that the world will end that day. I DO believe that something that will alter history as we know it will occur then, only because I feel that people trying to play up the whole 12/21/12 thing will lead to something happening. Now given, we may line up with planets, but I'm pretty sure 26,000 years ago humans were around, and if we survived then living in caves, SURELY we can survive another go around in todays time. Just my thoughts, and I'm a paranoid when it comes to stuff like this. lol

and i predict there will be a whole new set of predictions on 12-22-12 ans the prognosticator/seers et cetera will claim that the last predictions will still happen, there was just a major error in interpreting the date for the occurance :bs::bs::bs::didisay:

Now that I think about it, I'm suddenly brought back to high school history classes. Now I'm horrible with names and such, but I believe sometime in the 1830s or so, a man predicted the world to end in the year 1841 (or so). He had a huge following, and it was a huge uproar and worry. Well 1841 came and went, and needless to say the man looked like a fool. He tried to correct himself by stating that he had gotten his calculations wrong and told what little followers he had left that the world would end in 1850. So what happened, the year came and went. And what happened to the man, he killed himself. so yea...
