If memory serves me, it was Hernando Cortez who conquered them. They believed him to be Quetzalcoatl. (I had to Google the spelling of that one!!) Montezuma believed it was Quetzalcoatl returning to reclaim his throne as the Aztec stories and legends had always predicted he would do. That's why they had been so easily duped.

Well, that's the odd thing. As far as I know, the Mayans didn't mean ANYTHING by it. It's just the end of their calendar.

There are going to be a lot of embarrassed people out there if 2012 comes, and the only thing that happens is a couple thousand Mayans showing up at Calendar Club. ;)
 
People who believe in a god, especially a sun god, must be idiots (right?). But their ability to predict doomsday from their calendar, now that we can believe. :?

They didn't predict doomsday...that's one of the interpretations. Their calendar simply ENDS on December 21st of 2012. What it may predict is certain astronomical events...wich they were famous for charting and studying. Wich astronomical events...who knows?

The same way people were worrying and panicking over the Avian Flu, wich turned out to be nothing all that special?

i like the trailer. Looks interesting but i think the movie might be too much boring talk like "the day after tomorrow" which is boring.
