Mine is Uncle Johnny. He's 75 and hates everybody and everything. He watches only 1 show: FOX news. He thinks Obama is the anti-Christ. Seriously. He throws the N word around like it's the early 1900's. He chews with his mouth open, and farts some kind of awful, and over all has an old-man smell. Everyone's happy to see him go after the holidays.

None...I refuse to spend any time with anyone I don't like and being "family" is not an excuse that works for me.

Next week we'll be doing that insufferable "Thanksgiving-eat-together" thing.

My mothers' cooking aside, I can't stand it.

Ray........ my brother in law.

he thinks god is coming out of his asshole.

the fake prayer at the beginning he likes to do before meal is bad enough but talking and talking and talking is just fucking annoying.

This,my family are homophobic,my father was the worst. If my mum was still alive, then that would be my only reason for any sort of visit.
My brother and sister, much younger than me are twats of the first degree.
My friends and my partner are my family.

My aunt and uncle (they count as one because they travel in pairs) loud homophobic alcoholic drunks. She says she's outrageous. I would rather not be in the same house as either of them.

I'm very fortunate that I don't have any family members I can't stand. They're all pretty cool :)
That's something to be very thankful for.

I don't have much family left but those that remain are fine. No real baddies.

I had one relative even worse than that Uncle and at one family function when he started making homophobic comments I told him to drop dead he did the next day end of story! No I did not go to the funeral !

I'm going to my moms friends for turkey day. I get to hang around a bunch if Christians. Oh boy. Ah well, my mom is the best so I'll deal with it.

The family member that no one can stand would be my Aunt on my mother's side, Aunt Mary. Narrow minded, vicious, nagging little old woman. Doesn't like anything that isn't middle class, thin, able bodied, white, cis, and in this case androgynous by her standards, because she hates my appearance. I refused to see her last year and I'm continueing the ban this year. Other people would be K's mother - she loathes me. Luckily I don't have to be around her, at least so far.

Christmas has traditionally been held at my house. After the fiasco last year, I have announced that I am going away for the Holiday.

Let the leaches fend for themselves.

My older brother, he's a good guy and everything. But he doesn't have a volume and has a tendency to take over conversations a lot. He also tends to find ways to cut in when other people are talking. He gets on kicks about certain topics and HAS to talk about them no matter how many times he has talked to you about it before.

my aunt.

I normally never see my dad's family, but for whatever reason, my aunt + uncle (and their three kids) are all coming south to Jersey for the holidays.

she's an extremely conservative Catholic. when I was in junior high, she accused me of worshiping Satan because I played Dungeons and Dragons

I think my parents raised me right in this respect. Thanksgiving and Christmas have always been looked at as "family holidays", but...

1. They're not obligational. I've traveled during the holidays, and held "Thanksgiving for my family-less friends" at my place (instead of my family) twice. The family invite isn't "you must always be here for these holidays". It's "you're always welcome here".

2. Anybody who severely disrupts either of these holidays would not be welcomed back. Hell, if you severely disrupted dinner at their place, you would not be welcomed back. These get-togethers are meant to be fun and inclusive, and they've always been held as such.

And because of these two facts, I actually look forward to spending holidays with my family. You might say they've earned my support and loyalty rather than guilt-tripped them out of me. The fact that both my parents are great cooks is an added bonus. :)

I maybe the worst family member to say this, but I generally dislike all my huge family other than my father's second sister and my nuclear family. They're all hypocritical, pressed people, who hate my mother for no apparent reason. And somehow, the hate intensified when I was accepted in a public university (I was the first and, with my sister, the only family member to enroll to a public university). Their bad; I don't miss them.
