The Youngest Grocer In America

This young man is outstanding.
To have no folks, and have your grandmother support your endeavor as she has, is truly remarkable.
What a great story; it sounds like the town realizes what they have in this young man.

Good for him. I hope things work out for him.

Did anyone else notice that Katie Couric looked terrible? Guess she should have taken some of those NBC make-up artists with her when she left.

Wow...I would've blown it all on drugs.

i'd still blow it all on drugs.

good for him. i was still in diapers at 17.

the reporter, however, lost me as soon as he uttered the words "hope...that's what's on special this week". he oughta be shot.

The need of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

It's nice some people still remember that.

VIDEO: The Youngest Grocer In America

For a change, a feel-good, what's-right-with-America story.

I just hope his success continues. ..|

Re: VIDEO: The Youngest Grocer In America

oh that is SO cute!!! :D :D

I couldn't place his voice. But now I've figured it out. He sounds EXACTLY like a younger MR. Rodgers. The voice is almost the same. But OMG he dosen't look at all the way he sounds.

He does sound a lot older...and acts it, too. What maturity!

Kudos to him! The world would be a much better place if we had more people like him and the members of that community.

The only thing that concerns me is his future, i.e. college. I mean, he seems stable, but should he go to school? Does he need to? Does he want to?

Honestly, I think I would rather work for him and risk it all in Truman than to be working at my current retail job for a company that is only customer friendly and such in its advertising.

I admire his spirit in joining the cut throat industry and hopes he survives the inevitable large corporate take-over attempt.

I always watch this CBS News special that airs every Friday...

CBS Assignment America gives viewers a chance to choose the stories they want to see. Watch the CBS Evening News on Friday, then vote for your favorite story at CBSnews.com. Steve Hartman will report on the story with the most votes.

Steve seems to have 3 very "folksy" good-hearted stories in which to choose!

Too bad we don't have more people today doing something for the good of ALL and NOT just one!(*8*) (*8*)

His voice sounds awfully rough for a 17-year old...

I been in little towns like that in Mississippi and Arkansas, where there was a single grocery store, or laundromat, or pharmacy. And realized that if the store wasn't there, people would have to drive 30 or 40 miles to the next town to get what they needed. The story said he was hoping to find a pharmacist for the town... Are there any takers here?

I liked what that one woman said: "It is a time when when people realize that to succeed, we all have to work together." Sometimes it takes hitting rock bottom to wake people up and spur them into action...
