That darn pope is really throwing the good Catholics in the Republican party into a tissy. Now it may be that Raul Castro is moving towards conversion -- how dare he welcome a sinner into the church!

And today Christie joined the ranks with the crazies in the right wing by saying the pope should stay out of political issues and concentrate on faith. Hmm...when the Affordable Care Act was being debated, weren't the voices of bishops in the Catholic Church regularly sought out by Republicans to bash contraception requirements contained in the act? I seem to remember getting a letter from Cardinal Wuerl in my Sunday bulletin asking that we engage with our elected officials to stand against ACA; even after the Obama administration and Democrats changed language to satisfy their concerns.

Today I was discussing with a Log Cabin Republican at a birthday event and he echoed the remark that Francis should "stay out of politics and talk about spiritual stuff." Since he was Catholic, I asked if he had read Gaudium Et Spes and other documents from Vatican II? How about the Code of Cannon Law as codified under John Paul II? Of course he looked at me as if I was speaking Spanish (which apparently is not to be tolerated in the new GOP) and I gave him a taste of some of the documents. Like I explained to him, "Francis is only calling the church back to action and its roots."

He left mumbling.

It's too bad these "evangelicals" and Catholics aren't so zealous about their actual faith instead of what they want it to be in their minds.

It's only religion if it agrees with something they happen to want to believe at the moment. Otherwise, it's politics, or socialism, or treason, or something like that.

It happens in other sects too. I recall Bush I being mightily pissed with someone who brought up that point about it being easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to get into Heaven. George Washington, as I recall, once walked out of his local church when taken to task over his failure to communicate. A bit further afield, there was that unfortunate CofI chaplain -- the grandfather of the playwright Sheridan, as it happens --who chose as his text, sufficient unto the day are the evils thereof, on the anniversary of the Hanoverian succession ... and lost his job over it.

They just want to use a higher authority as justification for doing whatever they please.
They can't use science.

You GO Francis!

I'm not religious. In fact, I'm an Atheist. But I do like this Pope and a lot of what he's doing. Don't like it all, but a good portion. More so than John Paul II.

Your Holiness:

With all due respect, how are you going to deal with Ireland? - since it approved marriage equality by referendum.

Church of England already has female priests.

His prohibition of contraception belies his pretenced about the environment. The solution: encourage invasion of the U.S. and sanctuary.

Oh great...here we go about immigration again.

I guess since we created the mess in the Middle East that is causing the exodus of humans, we should now bolt the doors and let the world deal with the results. I take it you are a right wing Christian Republican?

Pretenced??????

Are you having a cerebral vascular accident?
