  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Thet want a partnership that's civil

Fuck them, they can get married like the rest of us.

The simplest thing would be for the government to repeal the civil partnerships legislation altogether now that there's same sex marriage in England, Wales and Scotland. It was a half way house which is no longer needed.

Sounds reasonable to me.

Marriage used to be first an foremost a civil arrangement between families.

If there are going to be two forms of partnership in Britain, they should be open to everyone.

For those who are clutching their pearls....ask yourself....why do you give a shit? What difference does it make in your life?

Bored with their own lives, jealous, envious, etc, etc.

Yeah screw you guys for having a different opinion, bring on the sheeple nation

Anyone is entitled to have a different opinion.

Just like these two people who want to have a civil partnership and are bucking the sheeple mentality of straight marriage.

So if the couple in question should be entitled to have an opinion that doesn't fit with the norm....the question still remains...what harm does their civil partnership do to the norm or to any individual if they are permitted the choice of one type of legal contractual agreement over another?

Is there some idea that one is superior to the other? That a civil partnership would do harm to the institution of marriage?

I am actually quite interested, because it was the debate that raged in the US for the last decade as well.

How come civil partnership is not equal to Marraiage ?

I thought they are the same thing. In the certificate, they should put "Marriage/Civil partner/De facto or what ever ... "
They should all be the same thing full stop.

Really, all people should have the same options.
I spoke to a man a few days ago and he is about 65. He was going to marry a woman but then they found that she would lose her deceased husbands pension by doing so.
There are issues of ownership of property as well as even being allowed to see a partner in the hospital or make decisions.

Marriage has been hijacked as a means to take benefits from people should they enter into it, a contract or civil union should be an option to avoid financial penalties.

Lots of country have both marriage AND civil partnerships for both straight AND gay. And the world didn't end.

(!oops! I posted this this morning when I was balancing my porridge bowl in one hand and trying to spell the headline in the other.)

I really don't see the need for a seperate Civil Partnership for straights. They already have a choice of a church wedding or a registry office wedding.
I agree we no longer need a gay civil partnership service

I´m going to ask the same question I ask homophobes against same-sex marriage (or as I call it, marriage): how does it affect YOUR life? Not at all? Then, why against it?

Because it is another tiny little thing to try and bash us with
