Just as we can look forward to the return of the Swallows to San Juan Capistrano every Spring, we can now look forward to the OWS lunatics crawling from beneath the rocks they call home.
Here's a fine example of a 99 percenter showing off his very attractive anti-Semitic qualities!

Anti-Semitism At Occupy DC's 'Emancipation Day'

Good weather isn't always a good thing ;)

I think that when OWS people look back on this -- 20 yrs from now, when most of these OWS folks will be in their 40s and 50s -- they will realize that they have become the very thing they were railing against.

Most of the OWS people of today will become the middle-aged moms and dads of tomorrow, working a typical "establishment" job, driving the family car, while they take their family to church and vote Republican.

Just like most of the hippies and "anti-establishment" and "free love" people of the 1960s and 1970s have become "the establishment" today.

Logical Fallacy - 31. Misleading Vividness - a very small number of particularly dramatic events are taken to outweigh a significant amount of statistical evidence.

In this case, Jackoroe has posted a video of one OWS member and his radical beliefs and has generalized the rest of the movement as "lunatics crawling from beneath the rocks they call home" with "anti-Semitic qualities." Considering I've been a part of several rallies and assembly meetings myself, am I also this inhuman, crawling creature you're describing, jackoroe? Is Kulindahr as well, for marching with me in protest?

JayQueer you have no idea what you're talking about. I'm years ahead of you in gainful employment, and the families I've marched with are much older, and career experienced than you.

^ Exactly.

Someone found one person (who claims to be an OWS demonstrator) who is anti-semitic. Therefore, "OWS must be an anti-semitic movement."

OWS is about equality and fairness. therefore, anti-semitism is anti-OWS. Any "OWS" demonstrator who purports to use the movement to attack Jews either has no understanding whatsoever of OWS, or is a fake.

You start a thread damning the entire OWS movement over a comment (from the Andrew Breitbart website) made by someone?

This is the exact same argument Pat Robertson makes against gays when two guys are having sex on the street during Pride. All homosexuals are like that.

Talk about grapsing at straws!

Along with all the beautiful spring flowers, trees, and shrubs comes crabgrass and all those pesky weeds.

Time to get out the Roundup(R).

I am unaware of any credential that proves you to be a bona fide member of OWS. There is simply the claim to being a part of it. The man in the video identified himself as a member of OWS, while wearing a 99% T-Shirt. Then he launched into his racist rant. Since there are no requirements for membership, no hierarchy to discipline or remove hate mongers like this, how can you make any sort of a claim as to what the organization is actually about. We can blindly accept what the group claims their purpose to be, or judge them by their actions, as in this case.

Rats! ...And I thought this thread was about the buzzards returning to Hinkley, Ohio. We're a little late for that. The actual date for both Capistrano and Hinkley is March 19th, when St. Joseph is honored. He's the patron saint of a happy death! :dead:

Not only that, many of them will be dead.

It very easy to find videos of incidents of the OWS groups ant-Semitic rants. The web is full of them, if only you'll open your eyes.

I don't recall there being membership cards for anyone who was a part of the Civil Rights Movement, either. Again, you're holding us to the standard that we have to make a claim defining to your expectations of what the organization is about. Then, you turn around, and use a few clips of videos of individuals making anti-semitic statements to define and generalize an entire movement. Do you see the inconsistency here?

You still haven't responded if the premise of this thread also includes myself and Kulindahr.

Jesus, jackoroe, I saw the thread title and I thought you meant the Albanian/whatever contingent. That seems a more co-ordinated and sure-footed invasion. But concern yourself as you must. Anti-semitism is something Israel kinda countenances because it keeps the heat on their Congress. They find it very useful for fund-raising.

What is odd to me is that 99% of the posters pissing and moaning that it is an unfair characterization are also the same folks who post one picture of a Tea Party rally and then make all kinds of false ignorant assumptions. Yet here they cry foul. That is what I find amusing about your "fairness" concepts. Undoubtedly there are thousands of OWS protesters who are decent folks who are protesting the innate unfairness that we teach children about at birth. The world isn't fair is it?

I think the OWS failed utterly to use the political capital they developed the first time around. So while SOME folks who are politically minded will continue to regularly protest calling themselves OWS the movement will never be a huge worldwide phenomenon again.

Are you an anti-Semite ? If you are yes. If not no. Further, it is reasonable to draw conclusions about OWS based on the people who attend and participate in their functions, just as we did with the Tea Party a couple of years back. I've heard all the excuses as to why acts of violence, drug abuse, rape and hate speech should not reflect on OWS as a whole. You're right, not everybody is a rapist, robber, doper or murderer. But those who are reflect badly on the whole movement. If as OWS claims, there are no leaders in the movement, then there is no means to hold them accountable. That's done by design. When OWS purges the haters and the violent types, then they will be worthy of public support.

But one of the remarkable features of right-wing politics in America is the utter lack of logic associated with its arguments. There is not even any concern that logic is something worth respecting or embracing. Evidence, reason, and scholarship are not virtues in the modern world of the right. Indeed, they are dangerous disciplines which must be avoided, because they interfere with the foregone conclusions of the party.

Republicans have given up on attempting to justify their positions, through logical argument, as reasonable. Because their policies and positions don't work in the real world, they have fashioned a fantasy universe in which their arguments seem to make sense, at least to them. There is no such thing as global warming, and/or it is not caused by human activity. Guns are not dangerous, and miraculously discriminate between good people and bad when they kill. Creationism is "science." Poor people choose to be a part of the lower class because they are lazy pikers who don't want to contribute to society. Rich people are paragons of morality who work hard for every penny they have earned, and therefore deserve to be propped up with socialism for the wealthy. Gay people choose an immoral lifestyle because they hate God, and therefore deserve no rights. OWS is an anti-Semitic movement, so any message that OWS demonstrators wish to convey about the economy deserves to be ignored.

Republicanism conveniently absolves us of any resposibility to care for the environment; of any responsibility for the violence inflicted by guns, of any responsibility to care for the poor; of any responsibility for protecting the rights of oppressed minorities; of any responsibility for regulating the economy; of any responsibility for caring for out sick. Indeed, Republicanism absolves us even of the need for the mental disciplines of logic or reason in our thought processes.

Republicansim is a political philosophy which argues that the best course for everyone is to do nothing for anyone (except the rich, of course). Such a philosophy is a good definition of laziness. "Don't ask me to do anything to help America, because anything I might do will only make things worse."

Because OWS is a popular demand for action, it is threatening to Republicans, who are quite determined to do nothing for America. OWS must therefore be destroyed. It is necessary for Republicans to believe that OWS is Nazi/communist/socialist/Muslim/a bunch of rapists/a bunch of terrorists/anti-Semitic/whatever, in order to absolve Republicans of the responsibility to listen to the concerns of these Americans.

In the fantasy world in which Republicans live, they cannot do anything to improve the lives of average Americans, because that would be disrespectful to Jews.

It seems to me you took great offense to patently racist articles in Ron Paul's newsletters, and defended him against the charges. Yet now, based on this clip, you want to condemn all of OWS as anti-Semitic. Care to explain this discrepancy, or are you willing to concede that we can condemn all Ron Paul supporters as racists based on the contents of his newsletters?

You mean the articles that Paul neither authored of approved? Please, give it up already! Nobody called all of OWS anti-Semitic either. Some of them are robbers, some are rapists, there's a good number of dopers, mental defectives and generally violent people along with a smattering of people who have a real interest in legitimate change. So, they're actually pretty diverse. Better!?

There, I've reduced your post to the comments that actually relate to the topic. No one has said what OWS says should be ignored. People need to see things, like these clips of the hateful people within OWS. They need to hear every word that comes out of the mouths of some of these simple minded fools. Then let people decide if they want to accept any advice on the economy from a group that allows people like this as members.

There is no need for anyone to destroy OWS. Just get out of the way. They're doing a great job all by themselves!
