d) it implies American companies are inherently good citizens or good for the country, and e) it is somehow patriotic.

That sense of national pride, history and cultural value is present in many countries and nations still. Possible difference is America has no long term culture or history.

Long term is relative. Europe goes back further before we get to the period where modern ancestors conquered the indigenous peoples there, maybe even as far back as the Neanderthals for somee. South Africa has a legacy of European conquest not unlike the U.S., only a few centuries.

Perhaps the difference is in diverse societies versus those that have kept to a monoculture. The US and Austria would be at polar ends of the spectrum.

In your own case, South Africa has hardly held onto a singular cultural identity and pride now that the power sharing has been forced to change.

Masquerading brand loyalty as patriotism is a propaganda ploy used by greedy oligarchs. It should be called out when it is trotted out for the gullible.

Suits that are worn to look like this... reason why I actually rather hate suits:

It only gets even worse when the pants fall in folds over the feet... dropped or tight around the waist, nevermind that.

And I am not even entering into tiepins and fascist-colour "dress" shirts.

My car insurance for both vehicles and an umbrella policy I carry are all up by 24-25%. That ain't inflation. And they're the same vehicles and home I've insured for years.

Time to shop.

A good tip I have learned is to look into quotes from regional companies. They tend not to advertise much if any so they have lower rates most of the time.

Statistically, State Farm offers some of the lowest rates of anyone.

I read up on the last two years, and State Farm indeed lost a lot of money.
