If you're talking about the stuff that gets stuck on the spine, you can avoid this by tearing the plastic from the opening end horizontally towards the center, never vertically.

It's mostly the static cling that gets me, because it never comes off in one piece. I keep my nails clipped as close as I can without drawing blood. I know, that's my fault, but I can't stand the feel of any growth. So I have to use a blade to pick at the cellophane trying not to gouge the case.

I will try your procedure.

I get DVDs from all over, and most arrive wrapped in cellophane. Those few that aren't always make me wonder if I'm receiving returned items/duds.
