  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Things that make your ears bleed

This one is more to do with written text, but I hate SMS language, and when people say things like "dunno" or "prolly". For fuckin fuck fuckin fuckin sakes, speak like a human being!

Gotcha! ..|

Oh hey, you know what I really hate?! this breathy, whispery singing style!

Every female singer does that now, and most TV commercials have some woman singing like that. Some singing fads are bad (remember all the rock groups that sounded like Creed or Nickelback?), but this is a whole new level of terrible.

Taylor swifts imitation of entertainment.....where the fuck is Isiis when you need them:grrr:

Maybe not my ears but certainly my eyes:

Another thread in Entertainment that stats with "Poll: Favorite ...song? Or "Poll: Favorite ... album?

At least he's down to only 2 or 3 threads per day. There was a time when the entire topic page was filled with those threads. I guess someone 'higher up' finally listened to him and called him up to the office.

the use of "quote / unquote" when it should be "quote / end quote" ](*,)

It's open to discussion...for while "Quote ... endquote" appears rational, it is in fact the word "unquote" which appears at the end of a direct quotation, according to The Merriam-Webster dictionary, and Fowler's Modern English Usage (a British publication).

Neither The Merriam-Webster Dictionary nor Fowler's Modern English Usage lists or recognizes the single word "quote" END QUOTE "unquote", but Fowler's Modern English Usage does indicate that "unquote" appears in the Oxford English Dictionary.

Not really, if you look through the pages in the Entertainment area since he joined they are just littered with his posts. Bet he could do that here.

I don't know why he bothers, really. Occasionally he'll get more than 3 responses, but most of them are less than 3. There are a whole lot of 'zero' responses. I'd have given up long ago if I had that track record.

He does talk longer in some of his other threads, maybe the entertainment ones are just to keep himself entertained, mostly he makes an effort in his OP, sadly, myself included we do no more than pick a song, vote and move on, i can't remember him having a bad word to say about anyone, perhaps if we all tried to engage him a little bit more things would evolve.

Where's SLOPPY SECONDS when you need him? ahhh.gif

I'm mostly tolerant, just don't say "veggies" around me because I hate that word.

There are a couple OF things that should've been on the list. Well; one, at least.

Nobody used to fuck that up: people reliably would say and write: there are a couple of items I want to discuss. Now, (starting around 2007 maybe?) I see people writing "there are a couple things I want to discuss..."

I don't know. People are becoming stupider, or maybe the modern world is empowering stupid people to be heard like never before.

No, there's a much more simple explanation. The "of" shifted its place, because it's needed here:

the misuse of "of"...I could [STRIKE]of[/STRIKE] have been a contender. (probably more so written than in speech, because they could be saying "could've" ...although I doubt it.)

;)

Expresso! haha me too!

Dunno has been around for decades. It was in use long before cell phones were even imagined and has become common slang.

Whiny little bastards bleating on about fuck all constantly.
Then don't do it! :p ;)

OK. How about the use of the word bae to mean girl/boyfriend?

This is its real meaning: http://www.buzzfeed.com/ryanhatesthis/heres-why-we-might-want-to-stop-using-the-word-bae#.sc087lNYP

It turns out there’s a really good reason to retire the word once and for all. “Bae” is actually the Danish word for “poop, crap, feces.”
