Hey guys,

I haven't posted in this section for a while, since everything has been more or less smooth sailing for the past while.

Well here is the thing, it's really been hitting me recently about having no real gay friends. Bars/clubs aren't really fulfilling at all for me, and the 2 gay friends I have aren't too close so we don't get to hang out a whole lot. And let's forget about relationships more than friendships, at the moment it really seems that isn't even a possibility with my life situation.

I'm out(ish), basically everyone who needs to know knows, otherwise I don't put really put my sexuality out there, so I've found meeting other gay guys is somewhat challenging.

I do a lot of volunteering, especially dealing with ex-sex offenders, and through this work, I learned about my city's local gay support organization. I just recently ended up scanning their website, and found out they have a under 25 group. They do weekly meetings, with various activities, plus have counselors on site as well. I just fired off an email inquiring, hoping that it's something to fit in my schedule. If it does, I am really excited to go check it out!

I feel like it's going to be a big step for me to get out there and meet people. I've always been a bit nervous about this sort of thing, but for some reason, I've starting thinking to myself "What is there to lose?", and "You have to make the effort to get things going better in your life".

Anyways, since I've been thinking about it a lot, I thought I'd write up about it. Hopefully anyone who has had experience with these sort of groups can put their two-cents in! I'd love to hear about it! I hope to follow up at a later date with my own stories!

It's a good step you've taken and there's no harm in checking out. I just hope the group you're talking about is not one of those awkward really conservative crazy groups where psychologists try to convince you that you're sick and that they will eventually some day heal you up.

I wish you the best.

I didn't go this route, but I've heard nothing but positive things from those who did. Go for it. :)

I went to a French speaking group and had fun. I think doing something like this is a great idea!

Good luck! Keep us posted!

Congrats! Sounds like positive steps you are making in your life!

Do tell us how things go.

Small update:

Went for a meeting at the local gay centre, and they offered me a position (volunteer) as a group facilitator due to my academic background and experience. Pretty cool! Definitely gonna be good experience since I'm applying for my MA in counselling psychology! :)

I went once and I had a great time! I even made friends. It's also a nice place to discuss issues that affect gay people's everyday life.
