If medicine is your profession, then I think the symbol FUCKER29 posted is more correct.

Also, know that this tattoo is permanent. So, be real sure this is what you want to do.

CONGRATULATIONS on your pending graduation from nursing school!

Never been a huge fan on tattoos on the calf. I think that it might look cool in the middle of your back, between the shoulders.

I looked them up on WIKI..

The one you favor is an ancient symbol representing the sciences.

The caduseus that Fucker posted is most associated with the medical profession.

Hope that this is helpful in your decision. :D

the "original" Asclepius stick has one snake.

some calve tatts work .. but somehow i don't believe this one does. if you have that one between on your neck, it shoul dbe pretty small. between your shoulders it could be a bit bigger.
it could also work on the shoulder if it is small enough.

a cool effect would be to just have a snake wriggling around your leg :D

Amazing! Get this tattoo, especially after all the work you've done. I think it's a great idea and for the past few weeks I've been contemplating getting the same image, but with the greek word Pharmakon written next to it. Pharmakon means both medicine and poison, and the snake has held spiritual significance for me. I also want to practice herbal medicine.

If medicine is your profession, then I think the symbol FUCKER29 posted is more correct.

Sorry to tell you, but you are wrong. The symbol "Fucker29" posted is called the Caduceus and it was the staff of Hermes, Messenger of the Gods. It is also the Greek Postal Service symbol. America uses that symbol wrong.

That would be a great tattoo, good luck with your studies

make a general sketch and take it to a reputable tattoist and ask him for something original. He will do a few sketches until you like it and he will place it down.

You don't have to have an exact drawing and tattoists love having a bit of creative input.

I like it and I like the idea of it. All of my tattoos have a meaning to me and they are just part of me, never good or bad, just symbols of things in life that I have lived and loved.

go for it!

I think that tattoos a great idea buddy.

I'm not sure of leg tats though. You do have a body to pull off any tat though!

As a rule, I say "No" to any tattoo.

But if you're looking for a symbol of nursing, you've got the wrong one. The rod of Asclepius is the medical symbol. The caduceus is the symbol that many older nursing schools used but no one really seems to know why since historically it was more of a symbol of commerce or alchemy.

Many of the schools are switching to the lamp of knowledge which has roots in the story of Florence Nightingale.

I'd recommend a pin, not a tattoo.

I can't tell how the tatoo matches until I see your butt. Tattoos have to match your ass so show it to me and then I can give an honest opinion.

Biblical
A similar symbol, Nehushtan, is mentioned in the Bible in the Book of Numbers (Numbers 21:6-9).
Then the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died. And the people came to Moses and said, "We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD and against you. Pray to the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us." So Moses prayed for the people. And the LORD said to Moses, "Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live." Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.[13]
