YouTube ad of a new phone. To me it is really gay. A bunch of boys being cute. Am I right or just incredibly biased?

lots of gay ads on TV here in New York--maybe in some areas they don't show them .

It looks like a boy band. What’s gay about that?

I agree, overgroomed effeminate man-boys with soft colored hair dancing and spending every waking moment together, that's like peak machismo. Nothing gay going on here, since we re being disingenuous and all. :rotflmao:

I get that BTS are huge, but how many 12 year old girls can convince their parents to buy them a foldable phone?

LOL I was actually wondering about that. That's literally a $2K phone. Only gay men with no kids have that kind of money to toss at a new phone LOL.

I always imagined when adverts were directed at kids, the intention was to get the kids to bug for things to the point of annoyance to where the Parent gave in.

I love BTS. (Call it creepy if you will. It's not getting out of control.)

But I'm not spending big bucks for a smartphone.

Holy crap, $2000 for a phone? That's just idiotic...

But with that said, I can definitely see why the ad seems a bit gay. Like why that particular pose in general? Lol.

According to sales numbers, this phone is selling at record breaking numbers. When the first gen came out, I really thought they wouldn't do that well. Turned out they sold about 500K of those. This one is gen 3 and it's selling like hot cakes.

At this point, nothing surprises me anymore. There really are a lot of people out there willing to pay $2K for a phone.

That's very true. Stupid. But true. I don't know that there's any piece of tech out there I'd be willing to pay that much for. But then I tend to not be a huge tech person, so maybe that's why...

Well, I think it's a very cute ad, and they do look like the want to get plowed.

Perhaps biased.

This is a South Korean "boy band" who is extremely popular right now. Perhaps, in their culture (which is "softer" than Americans are used to), men are not stuck in the traditional "masculine" mode that is so prevalent in other parts of the world.

Prince - at one time - was thought to be gay (remember his 1981 song "Controversy" which talked about people's perception of him, as evidenced in the opening lines"...I just can't believe all the things people say (controversy)/Am I black or white, am I straight or gay? (Controversy)..."

He wasn't, but if you went by what Black culture considered "masculine" behavior, especially at that point in time, you might've believed it. Especially since, in 1978, when his first album came out, the album photo of him made you wonder. Later, of course, Prince went on to become a legendary musician and no one even commented on it any more. He wasn't any more or less masculine in 2010 than in 1978, but his music was so banging, nobody cared, including all the rappers. Everyone idolized him.

Gay culture can be unsurprisingly limited in their "take" on other ethnicities and cultures, because of the ongoing struggle (not much different than it was in 1974) with archetypes of what's masculine/gay and what's not. I considered that these guys' dance moves were gay-ish until I looked them up and saw what part of the world they originated in. After that, I realized, "Oh, they're South Korean. Different mannerisms."
