I did before, but forgot about it. I'm glad you reminded me because I enjoyed that program.

I try to never miss it. This TV episode about John Smith was one of the weakest.

Did you see the TV episode a few weeks ago about the disabled kid (well, he's in his 20's) down in Florida? That was brilliant. He can't do anything for himself -totally dependent on Mom for everything. He can type and has a speech syntheseizer sort of like Steven Hawking. He said his fantasy was for his speech synthesizer to sound like Johnny Depp, so they got Johnny Depp to read his comments through the show.

Being of sound mind, however, he was tired of Mom's constant influence, so he puts an ad on Craigslist and Poof! he's got a girlfriend. If there was ever something to make you look in the mirror and question what you're bitching about, that was it.

YES, I do!

I like Ira Glass, the host!

Those of you who are NOT aware of this good program, give it a shot.......you'll like it!(*8*)

The funniest fifteen minutes I have ever heard on the radio was the story about the "Little Mermaid" telephone message at NYU

I was howling!!

i have listened on the radio to Ira Glass & This American Life for years...but i was unaware that it is now on t.v. - perhaps because i watch SO LITTLE t.v. - it's a wasteland IMHO

thanks for posting this...i may just find my remote and look for TAL on showtime....

I only recently found it a few months ago, but so thoroughly enjoy the show. Their episode on the Credit Crisis was amazing, and incredibly eyes opening,

I've listened to it for several years. I can't think of a specific show that I liked because I like them all.

What I do remember is that Ira Glass demanded that he be changed from a speaking engagement (a church I think) because they were homophobic and he refused to be associated with them.

He's a real friend.

I love This American Life.

One story in particular I'll mention -- one from the early part of this decade, maybe 2001 or 2002, where they investigated gay life in Colorado Springs, "The Evangelical Vatican of America" ... or was it on growing up gay in Evangelical Christianity? I don't remember ...

Anyway, what I do remember is they followed the life experiences of one young gay man through his 18th birthday, realizing he was gay, coming out to his church (Ted Haggard's church, no less), getting kicked out of it, "turning straight" (except it didn't work) and going back to the church, watching the young men at church hug then call each other "Fag!", giving up the "straight" charade ... in the last interview, the interviewer (it wasn't Ira Glass) had lost touch with the young man then happened upon him in the gay section at a porn shop in Colorado Springs. Wry and sad.

I LOVE Ira Glass...
This American Life is probably one of the top three programs on NPR
I was disappointed, though, that I missed the big May movie event...

Sorry, I hate to do this, but This American Life is Chicago Public Radio.

They are pretty much the same. This American Life could easily fit into the NPR world.

It's just that CPR/NPR are on the same station

Act 2 starts around 18:00. The stories before it are good as well. But this one is very special. You can move the dial over to 18:00 to get to it.
