This American Life

I am really loving This American Life. I used to listen to a lot of podcasts while in high school, but since college I have had to cut it in less than half, and This American Life is most times the only one I listen to for the week.

I really loved their special shows explaining how we got in this economic problem. It was really eye opening, and I really want to donate, just as soon as my bank account is replenished.

This American Life! If a guy has heard of it or better yet is a fan like me - big points! There have been so many good stories over the years but one that stuck with me was Prom night in a small Kansas town when a massive tornado hit.

And anything and everything by David Sedaris or Sarah Vowell. Always funny. Always thoughtful.

Being of sound mind, however, he was tired of Mom's constant influence, so he puts an ad on Craigslist and Poof! he's got a girlfriend. If there was ever something to make you look in the mirror and question what you're bitching about, that was it.
Shit, anybody can get a girlfriend. I mean, guys on death row have girlfriends. It's boyfriends that are hard to come by...

I was listening to an episode while I was working out.....I started tearing up...It was a story about a guy that accidently lit a shirt in a locker on fire....so sad and real. :(

I heard that one ... it was touching, but I thought it was funny too, in a wry sort of way. It brought back memories of junior high, and believe me, that's a time I wouldn't ever want to relive!

One of my favorite things to do is listen to the show while roadtrippin. I was driving through Southern Illinois one morning a few years ago and the show chronicled the last few months of a southern grandmother's life as she died from cancer. It wasn't all about her, but more about how her decline and death affected the close bonds within her family. Sounds morbid to say, but it was a great show.

I love This American Life. I only atarted listining to it the other say to get through my inane office job, and I just loved every story. The one on Bobby Dunbar was the first one I listened to, and still my favorite.

I so want to go to the live show, but it is the same day as my grad class; will more than likely skip. :p

Yes, the Bobby Dunbar one was fascinating. I think that I will go even if I have to go by myself. It should be fun. :)

The ones about the financial industry have been excellent as well. I wish that Donald Trump would have listened to them before spouting his mouth off about the financial industry the other day. He makes it sound like he knows all...but after listening to these episodes on Thie American Life, it is obvious that he does not fully understand what is going on. I'm not saying that I know the best way to fix it either but I do know that many of the things he said were incorrect.

I also love how people on the street all act like they know how to fix everything by letting the banks just colapse. Those people are just spouting off things they have been told.
