Its funny. People like you, and much of the media, tries to portray the tea party groups as all white, all the time. As I was driving through some suburbs today on the way to visit my bf, I passed through several prominent tea party demonstrations. Wouldn't you know, out of the group of 100 or so people, probably only 50-60% of them were white. Most were middle-aged, many were minorities (mostly black, with some hispanic and other minorities), and none were frothing at the mouth crazy like people like you portray them. As a matter of fact, although all of the signs said something like 'taxed too much' and 'Obama's bad for the future', none referenced socialism, and none portrayed the leaders in a particularly negative manner.

Its amazing what you can learn if you pull your head out of your ass, stop listening to what others are feeding you, and go see for yourself what things are all about.

Few of them seem to face this conundrum; the ones who do rationalize it. Once in a great while, you'll meet one who admits that they don't have an answer.

As a stated in another post, I would love the government to give an "opt-out" for Social Security and Medicare.

I would save and pay for these out of my pocket.

Because disrespecting anyone is immature, self righteous, egotistic, and counterproductive. There are many things to criticize the teabaggers for; however, simply calling them names, disparaging them for their age, education, etc. is as prejudicial and biased as the people you claim to oppose, in short, it's an obvious hypocrisy to anyone with an ounce of introspection.

Of course, South African neo-nazis are not analogous to American teabaggers anymore than South African vigilantes that put a gasoline doused tire around someones neck (necklacing) and set them on fire are analogous American muggers.

Let's be specific: they paid for their premiums. They have never paid—nor never will—be able to pay for their benefits, which can reach into the millions of $ in a worst case scenario. Follow the money, and you'll see my point.

Justapixel, you're going to have to face the fact that they're (I repeat: not YOU—THEY) sucking off the government's tits with Medicare.

They paid for Medicare the same way we all do, with our taxes. Some is taken out of our paychecks directly for Medicare and the rest of what Medicare costs is paid for out of other taxes collected from us by our government. Or added to our debt that we'll pay with taxes later on.

Did you miss that: OUR government. Not THE government. And OUR government belongs to Tea Partiers as much as the rest of us. There is nothing wrong about protesting the government over how our tax dollars are spent.

Further, TARP, Obama's stimulus and ObamaCare is what they cite as the straws that broke the camel's back, and those are very different from Medicare and Social Security.

With SS, theoretically you get, directly, the money you paid back to you. (We all know that this doesn't happen in reality)

With Medicare, you're paying into a premium, which doesn't translate out in $$ the same way. One single heart attack might set you back $400k, which is way, way more than any one person would ever pay in Medicare taxes over their lifetime.

I know exactly how they work.

My point stands. With the taxes we're directed to pay by our government, we fund those programs. And "we" includes Tea Partiers. They've been paying all their working lives, or since the mid-1960s, to fund the program for those who've received Medicare benefits the past 45 years. The people now receiving Medicare are the ones who've been paying for treatment for all those heart attacks others have had the past 45 years.

My beef is that most of those old fossils are sucking the government's titties through Medicare benefits, while at the same time frothing at the mouth over big government.

Accepting benefits from programs they've paid for decades to fund does not disqualify them from protesting big government or any other element of government. And in fact it could be argued it uniquely qualifies them.

It's a conundrum that just won't compute, to my mind, and very few of the teabaggers will ever even face. When one of them can be coaxed to talk about it, their answers are weak at best....

It sounds to me like they want "theirs", but don't want anybody else to have anything. The hypocrisy galls.

If that's true of them then it's also true of people who are opposed to more bank bailouts or other forms of corporate welfare, or any government spending. Most of us oppose some government spending, whether it's a particular war or programs for the elderly or bridges to nowhere -- and with deficits running in the trillions and debt multiplying daily, anybody who doesn't oppose some government spending is very foolish.
