I saw that video the other day. I'm not exactly sure how it works, but it was pretty amazing, and the potential is just as amazing.

This is going to revolutionize the Dildo industry. Why mail order when someone can send a replicated version of their own cock on demand?

I grasp the concept, and it's pretty cool... but using the word "printer" rather confuses things. It would be a little more accurate to call it a computerized layer-molder... it's essentially laying down the object in layers of self-adhering solidifying material to a computer's specification.

It's the same principle as a brain-scan... if you printed out on paper every layer of the brain scan, then cut out the shapes and lay them one on top of the other, you'd have a model of a brain. So if you did the same thing with a material that melds to the layer below it and then solidifies, instead of ink and paper that has to be cut out, you'll have a plastic object, with moving parts even, of any kind of complexity you can imagine.

The problem is coming up with a material that works that way. By scanning and replicating a monkey wrench, you ended up with a plastic monkey wrench... and monkey wrenches are pretty useless if they're not made of steel or iron. Coming up with machinery that works with high-temperature liquid instead of powdered acrylic will be a challenge.

I would totally invest in that. That's so cool.

almost too late. the groundwork has been done for quite some time already. the startups are "started" and people are already making money with it. the cheapest versions are already affordable and hobbyist communities are alive and kicking :)

Swellegant is correct in his description. I've seen it done. The process is also called rapid prototyping. I work in the mold making industry were it's used all the time to see how a product will look and work before you build the mold. We used to take solid blocks of plastic and machine the various parts for the prototype. This process saves weeks of work.

and it definitely wouldn't be good for a Dildo but it would be an exact replica.

Wow, that's such a cool "printer". XD I want one of those! I especially like the part about reaching into the powder and taking out your replicated object.

They say it was 5 minutes before the first ruler invented measured a penis.

I bet this thing was making a copy of a penis in .5 seconds. ;)
