Deliberated on where to post this topic but thought is would better here, more exposure, more discussion, more ideas.

So my question is what are your thoughts on the best site or sites for actual dating in the gay world. There are so many and they probably all have faults and good points. Years ago I tried Match.com but found out that their gimmick is to keep all the profiles in the mix even though they are not active and the owner has left the system. Their ad of telling you that there are a 100 profiles in your zip code or 500 is all fake when you actually find out that the real answer is like 10%. Silver Daddies was good years ago but a recent venture through the site now finds that the huge majority of profiles is all the older silver daddies and very few younger guys on the site. You can browse through and find no one within a 200 miles of your location and it would probably be even worse in a place like western Minnesota or Nebraska. Tinder is the hook up version of Match. OK Cupid is a difficult platform to naviagate and all those questions. You want to meet a guy not a robot who answer 25 questions correctly. The other sites I don't know much about so was hoping to get some feedback. They all cost money to get the features out of them as nothing is free anymore. So give us your ideas, your experiences, tell us what is good, what is bad, what is worth the time to put in. And I am considering apps like Grindr, Scruff and the like to be dating apps as they are geared more towards the casual hook up than actual dating. Craigslist had a dating section along with the hook up and have heard of people finding success on that site but alas that is no more.

Thanks guys for your feedback and input. Maybe there will be others out there that will find this helpful.

I've got to disagree with you there. If he's answering them like a robot, he's not answering them correctly.

Over the weeks and months I used OK Cupid, I answered a whole lot of those questions and read the answers to lots more. If you pick good questions to answer (you don't have to answer every one that comes along), you have good, interesting things to think about, and any guys I'd want to pay attention to will have many interesting answers of their own, so there's plenty to talk about in messages and when you meet. And some of the profiles and answers can be very funny; I used to folow the profiles of some out-of-town guys just for the entertainment.

I used PlanetRomeo for years. It's quite popular in Europe, much less in other places. People use it either for dating, hooking up or making friends.

How well did you find it to work?

And did you find a boyfriend with it?

Facebook dating was pretty decent people actually wanted to have conversations.

On a technical level it works fine for me.
On a personal level there's the problem of how many people are there in your area, and some of them being stupid. Like any other app I guess.
I couldn't find a boyfriend but I could find some good sex

I missed all of this.

My partner and I have been together 41 years now and we met the old fashioned way by me flirting with him at his workplace and then going for dinner at his place.
Same here. It was one of those "he had me at hello" moments when I met him  .

I don't think I would do well with any apps because I like to feel the vibe of the guy in person.

Yep. How many people there are in your area isn't such a problem here; that sort of thing is one of the reasons I came to live here.
But you did get some good sex, and that counts for something.

Oh, totally. But that's what the first date is for, and if the vibe is a poor match, it's perfectly fine to say, "Sorry, this isn't working for me" or "Sorry, I'm just not feeling the chemistry" and cutting the date short. I've done it, and it's been done to me.

Of course, that's why I used a dating app rather than a hookup app: I don't want to be considered an a-hole for not being automatically willing to put out once we agree to meet in person.

(The elders tell me that that was the case before 1982: if you found a guy through a gay personal ad -- located, in those days, in the back pages of the gay newspapers and sometimes also The Village Voice -- when you met him in person, you expected, and were expected, to have sex with him, and you were considered a jerk if you didn't. I presume that the young'uns reading this can figure out why that would have changed after 1982.)

While I actively look at 4 gay apps such as Grindr, I usually don't contact or respond. I may respond if the person is somewhat near me (with 35 miles) but they will have to have some sort in information in their profile to give me a hint about them. I live in such a rural area that there is not even a full page (screen) of locals on the Grindr app. We even have a 2 local commuity colleges within 30 miles. That should give you an idea of how "dry" the gay scene is here.

I don't bother with those that just say, "Hey." JUB and porn are my only connections to the gay community.

I should say that I am all for whatever connects 2 people together that might turn into a friendship or FWB or LTR or whatever.

I don't care if it is church or Grindr.

Go for it.

bbrts  for condomless dating. Thankfully I have had only two dates in years.

bullchat terrible buggy dating app with Corona conspiracy theories en drugsdealers and lots of fake guys.

Dating apps, I never used them. Hookup apps, Manhunt.net, Adam4Adam, I used them all the time a while ago. I have been many years out of the scene to give an accurate depiction.
