Excluding the immense difficulty of getting into it, what do you all think about the porn business? I've been looking into it lately as a way to help pay for my exorbitant out-of-state tuition and have been weighing the pros and cons. I feel like it could be a decent side job and pay well but the potential repercussions scare me (I want to be a software engineer for a decent tech company). How does everyone else feel about it? Would you if you didn't need to worry about future employment issues?

Take into consideration what this is going to do to your family when it is discovered by the locals where they live that a son or brother is doing porn. A local guy I know got into it and the ridicule and insults that his mom and brother got forced them to move out of the area. Granted we live in a very small community where everyone knows everybody's business but this decision will effect other people besides yourself. Also, somewhere down the line it will become an issue at where ever you go to work, even if it is only your co-workers finding out about your past.

Do not do it. Even if you use a phony name, in a couple of years, employers will have the ability to search with facial recognition.

It is only for people who want to make a serious business of being in the sex industry.

I also don't think it pays well at this time. You might consider escorting. Good pay with a better ability to protect your identity.

^I escorted both an undergraduate in college and during grad school, and for some time afterwards as I was building a career. An excellent endeavor all around. Good money, interesting guys and experiences. When I had the opportunity to do porn I turned it down, fearing--as us you do now--repercussions. In retrospect--I've just hit my late thirties--I doubt a few years in porn would have had any negative consequences. However, I suspect that unless you want to put a fair amount of effort into building a porn career, it's not going to be particularly lucrative. You should be doing it for the experience more than the money. And if you need to use money as an excuse to rationalize the experience, fine.

I see you're in SLO--it would be easy enough for you to set up an interview with one or two of the SF-based porn companies, and see what you think.

You could be an escort. They make good money too...without being "exposed" in the media.

What about JUB Live or similar sites? Don't know how much money can be made--and there seems to be a lot of competition--but it certainly looks easy.

If you really want to do it, then go ahead and do it. Too many people today live in fear...fear of not living up to others standards, fear of being judged, fear of being looked down upon....etc. You've just got one shot, live your life and experience your life fully. Good experiences, bad experiences, they all add up to a total called life. Make that life an exciting, fun life. On your deathbed you'll be sorry for the things you didn't do, but probably not for the things you did.

Sorry if I was unclear. I've decided that porn is too risky for me. I was just curious to hear other's thoughts on it.

I agree but if a few quick bucks were to ruin my shot at my dream career, I'd regret that a lot more.

And while we're on it, what's the deal with fluffers? I heard briefly about that but couldn't get much info (not that I want to be one lol),

Escorting is not a bad idea. The whole media thing would just be fishy with me.

You can find other side jobs. Not worth the risk or repercussions.

wouldn't do it. you couldn't pay me any amount of money to do it. not really interested in sex and all that to begin with. even though i've never done it, it seems boring especially when it's meaningless or for money. if i'm going to risk it all and damage my reputation where it'll come back to haunt me where i can't do shit anymore in life, i would rather go all out to the point of no return such as drug trafficking, gun running, bank robberies, armed robberies, home invasions, an enforcer for a drug organization or even becoming a hitman doing contract killings and asassinations. that to me is exciting. if i'm going to go all out and say fuck it, i wanna go all out. fuck being a porn star. i don't have the look for that anyway but i do have the look of a guy that's up to no good though.

I suggest you don't do it. We live in a very sex-negative world, and it could ruin your life when you're discovered by friends, family, co-workers, etc.

It's a way for sex workers to get around the law against prostitution.

It's a euphemism. It also means you're not walking the streets, but studying for your classes while waiting for your next potential client. A much more efficient use of your time not to mention better pay and clientele.

The problem with porn is they don't pay men shit to do it. Escorting is definitely the way to go if you're thinking about doing something like that.
