LORD OF THE RINGS vs HARRY POTTER

(I'm talking Books here guys, but if you want to bring in the movies, please do)

Ok Guys, who is going to win?

**wars**

LOTR gets my vote ..|

i didnt read any of the books *hangs head in shame*

but i think that Harry Potter is gonna win. reason being theres more to them than the Lord of the Rings. me personally i was a bigger fan of LOTRs than HP cause i thought HP was gonna be cheesy and more kiddish if thats even a word. but after seeing Sorcerers Stone i got hooked on them. Plus there are only 3 LOTR movies compared to the 7 of HP

"Lord of the Rings" far out distances Harry and the Potters...................Just my $0.02

As Movies;

Quality, not quantity for me. LotR is hands down the best fantasy movie ever made.
J.R.R. Tolkien writes a compelling story with broad appeal that continued across all three installments. I have the extended version, recall over 13 hours of viewing plus extras.

HP was novel & enjoyable at first, but with Prisoner of Azkaban, I felt Hollywood had taken over control & produced a too modern version of HP, straying away from its predecessors & becoming predictable.

As far as cinematography goes, LotR blows HP away. My opinion.

Well, originally, I would have said LOTR. But then Order of the Pheonix and Half Blood Prince came out, and the plot THICKENED. I'm so wrapped up in HP I can't wait until July.

Yeah, Harry can't touch LOTR with a 10 foot broomstick.

LOTR is the best fantasy books ever written imho.

I love my Harry Potter books but... they really don't hold a candle to LOTR.

I have been reading LOTR trilogy since 1974 and I love The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers. However, The Return of the King turns wooden for me and the dialogue fails toward the end of the book. The Hobbit ,Tolkien's first book was marketed as a children's book and sets the stage for the LOTR.. So here he and Rawlings are on an equal footing. Rawlings has written the HP series mainly for children and I see a lot of Tolkien's influence in her writing. I have read all the HP books several times and really like the way the characters and story lines have developed. Rawlings writing is warmer than Tolkien's writing and the world she portrays is less rigid.

For me Tolkien's LOTR is mythic, so sorry HP my vote goes to LOTR .

I did not complete / finish reading LOTR. I was dead bored by the time I tried to figure out what the book was trying to say.

Yes, its true that some of J.R.R.Tolkien's descriptions of the landscape can get a bit much at times ( Terry Pratchett once said some of Tolkiens's most interesting characters were the Mountains!), as do some of the songs. These are minor grumbles but as a whole it is still a superior work.

And as The Hobbit had been mentioned, I still think this is one of the best Children's book yet written. Though the master of the craft for writing for children was the great Roald Dahl.

Lord of the Rings, easy. Admittedly, I've only read the first four HP-books, but they're at such a distance from LotR that I don't see how they can catch up.

Whenever I read LotR, I move into an entirely different world, from which it is very difficult to get me out.

DING! DING!

It looks as though Harry's wand it beginning to droop, he's taking quite a beating; Can Harry hold in there? Or is Gandalf going to send Harry off to meet Dumbledor prematurely

Next round: DING! DING!

What! No more in favour of Harry???

Poor Harry, Gandalf's got him on the ropes, looks like KO blow is about to fall.

Nah, Harry wins. He has a wider choice of spells than gandalf, and a bigger sword than any of the hobbits. Mind you, Aragorn might give him a bit of trouble, but hell, he's got a broomstick! Take out Gandalf and Legolas, then fly above the rest, throwing random offensive stuff at them.

Or imperio Aragorn and have him give everyone a good ol' fashioned arse whoopin'.
