I have two confused rambles of my own.

Ramble 1: I've seen movies where the old washer-women would clamber down and wash their clothes in the river. Then they would spread the clothes out on the rocks to dry. I guess they waited around to turn the clothes over until they were completely dry. I guess they chattered and sang songs together as they did it all.
