Just after 6 PM local time on Sunday evening, my internet went off and my modem couldn't connect. But, there was hope. It went from complete failure to almost made it to success (if only for a minute or two).

It was still off this morning, so I tracked down a number to call and did all of the troubleshooting they recommended. Nothing worked, so I was put through to tech support. I explained the symptoms (flashing lights and changing colours) and he talked me through a few things to try. He quickly tracked it down to the power cord.

I just got back from a bus trip to the south end to get a replacement cord. Apparently, they've had to replace thousands of them over the summer. Bad batch, I guess. Anyway, I got the new cord plugged in properly and voilà! Success!

I love it when a plan comes together.

No wonder the board hasn't been as festive!

With you and Beachguyj doing all these repairs gays are gonna get a bad name. :p

Congrats! It's so hard to live without internet these days. Although wifi is so easily available.

There's a full moon on Thursday. Is it that time of year for a Harvest moon again?

Right you are.

Full Harvest Moon. Watch the near full moon rise soon after sunset, Wednesday, September 18, and reach official full moon status at 7:13 am EDT the next morning around when sun rises.

The full moon nearest the fall equinox is known as Harvest Moon and was probably coined by farmers in the Northern Hemisphere since its added light is said to have helped them gather in their crops.

We are so butch: I still have some harvesting left. :gogirl:

Neil,
Did they credit you for the time you were out of service?

You've had that modem for years, right?

Did you get bit by a mosquito while you were out?

I used to go weeks without logging onto the internet... but now, I don't think I could go more than a day without at least checking my email
I have a friend who's about as addicted to the internet as I am. During the extended power outages in New Jersey after the hurricanes, he connected his modem to a gel cell battery so he could get the internet. I'm very glad he did that actually, because not hearing from him for weeks after those nasty hurricanes would have been very stressful for me. I know that sounds selfish considering what he had to go through, but you know what I mean.

Microsoft owns it? Wow. They should credit you from when you reported it until you got the new modem - although, they may claim their service wasn't down, just the equipment they provide you . . .

^ Microsoft bought out Sympatico a few years ago. The internet service wasn't 'down'. It never stopped. Equipment failure (the power cord) stopped me from making use of the service provided. Sympatico wasn't directly responsible.

gsdx, as timely as this thread is, my laptop cable power supply died on me this morning. I noticed the lights go intermittent, then off. As I had the same make of laptop as last time, I checked the power supply 19v, and as luck would have it, the old power supply cable I had from the old machine still works. Maybe some of your luck (good or bad) has rubbed off on me :D

When I moved recently I was 7 days without internet or cable TV. Comcast told me that I could just connect it myself but the line was bad and had to be replaced a week later. It was brutal to be without them for a week, luckily I had some movies on my computer that I could watch.

WoW, no internets for two whole days? Did you get therapy yet?

But that's the thing. The lights never went off. They were always on over the 2 days and their flashing showed they were connection attempts were being made throughout. Even my WiFi was trying to connect to the modem when it seemed to get 'close'. It did, in fact, make connection and I was online for about a minute or so before I went off. That's why I thought it was Sympatico which was having the problems.

He probably went to a wifi hotspot or has a smartphone...

Neil,
I knew they were "in the clear" based on the "service not being down" even though they provide the equipment, too.
I'm just glad you were able to get is sorted out, and were physically able to get down to the provider to do the swap, instead of having to rely on others to lend a hand.

Just a hike to the transit depot, a ride to Lansdowne Place, a walk across a parking lot, through the mall to the other side, and across the other parking lot to Lansdowne Street. The Bell store was a few stores west from there. Picked up the power cord, back to the intersection where I bought an iced tea from the DQ there, then back through the lots and mall to the bus stop. By the time I made it back home from the transit depot, I was just about down for the count.

Those morning walks seem to have paid off.
