We can't have any kind of national direction. We can't have national goals. We can't have a national vision to work together toward building a better country and the general welfare and common good of the people. We can't have a national pro-active plan to address any issue at all. Because, you know, that would be socialism  . It's not about what you can do for your country any longer. It's all about what you can get for yourself and how to keep others from getting it too. I'm in a very pessimistic mood about the United States these days.

^pure socialism was already attempted in the U.S., it failed miserably and went to Canada.
Americanism trumps it, makes it obsolete and unnecessary, look it up.

The solution to the 'challenges' is simple, get rid of the asshats currently running the government (and the country into the ground) and reinstate the constitution, hold our representatives accountable to ensure they follow the original plan and intent of each branch of government. They work for us, not the other way around.

But all of this is meaningless once you realize who is actually controlling the world.
(ppppsst, it's not the nations' governments)

Why voting is a pointless exercise in futility.

Well...I would give it 40 years.

When 1% of the population owns 90% of the wealth and 99% own 10% of the wealth...revolution happens....one way or the other....

To get even richer....they need slaves....and when enough people get pissed off...uh....it wont' be pretty...

In the meantime..they have us idolizing rich people on TV for doing absolutely nothing..suggesting they are somehow important (Kardashians, Paris Hilton)

That...or Mother Nature is gonna kick our ass. I think that there have been six or more civilizations on earth before that were wiped out...extinct....the earth IS very old..and we are very egotistical....thinking we are all that and a bag of chips....

When you read a post such as mine you get angry, after all, we had 8 years of a liberal and things really aren't as they should be, we all know that.

No, I don't. I simply disagree on the import of your observations or their ability to predict to the Fall of Rome.

I think you misunderstood my sarcasm  I am certainly in favor of national goals, direction and priorities and I do not consider that to be socialism. My point is there are a significant number of the electorate that do and that scuttle any type of national agenda under the claim and guise of "socialism" because it really just conflicts with their own selfish interest. That is why there can no longer be any national goals or direction and why we don't work together. It all about what can you get for yourself. Working together for the common good is out of the question.

NotHardUp1, just curious, I can't read the puzzle in your sig??

Seven Swans a-Swimming.

The signature utility limits the size of the pic that can be imported. Sorry. I replaced it with a larger version after your comment.

And, unbeknownst to me, there was a scandal with that particular puzzle, as a contestant didn't pronounce the final "g" when solving the puzzle and lost $4,000 as a consequence. Who knew?

Claim what you will, your demonstration of putting your keyboard into high gear and dredging up things like blacks in the 50's and pollution of our land had nothing to do with my post, it was a tsunami of info and wordy remarks meant to wash out my point.

Then you bark out "adapt!", er, should I eat cake?
I will post what I want and wont be intimidated.

A single word as a direction isn't "barked," but merely stated. No exclamation point. No drama.

It doesn't require anger to dredge up the arguments that make my point. As your OP makes an assumption of gloom, it indeed deserves to be washed out by opposing arguments. Contrary to your dislike of the points, they had everything to do with illustrating the recurrent cynicism and rejection of challenges and changes in our world.

Your pessimism isn't new. It's been here many times before.

Wordy, it was. A tsunami? No intimidation is needed, only debate on the question you raised.

As it is entirely subjective, you are welcome to sit and stew in your gloom. And those of us who don't share your interpretation of the augury, are free to reject it.

As regulars can tell you, the length of a post I may does not correlate with anger, but with interest in the issue/question.

Did someone ask you not to post?

First, I am not pessimistic, if I felt that we had no hope I would not bring issues up, some seem to accept that our nation can never be what it once was or that it can ever improve. A pessimist does not look for challenges, he hides from them. He pretends all is well.

I do not stew in my gloom either, gee, you really think you know what a person is thinking.
I do like to point out the obvious, for obvious reasons. America needs to change course, that is obvious.

If you think we are on the right track, that all is well and it's as good as it's ever going to get, you are entitled to your opinion.

No, you didn't ask me not to post, you merely did as you have done before and tried to smack me down with a deluge of words.
Part of being a skillful speaker is perhaps saying the same thing in a sentence as opposed to paragraph.

Thanks. I noticed I read it perfectly on my bigger desktop screen, but then you said you changed the picture out, so I don't know if the old one was also readable on the desktop...but on the laptop it wasn't. Probably a megapixel issue with the laptop monitor.

As far as the "final G" problem, it gets worse...I remember, probably 25 or even 30 years ago now, that the puzzle was EMPIRE STATE BUILDING. The contestant said "The Empire State Building"...and was disqualified from the win!! That was so entirely bogus, and I wrote a letter to WOF to bitch about it...never got a reply. I've always wondered if she was later brought back.

Any answers given in this thread may change in about 45 weeks, as the coming election may very easily have GLOBAL consequences. Electing somebody who wants to wantonly bomb Muslim nations, and who embraces torture and the killing of families of (suspected) terrorists, would more than likely turn NEARLY ALL of humanity against the United States, forever.
