Tim Burton finds his "Alice"

An unknown Australian actress has won the title role in Tim Burton's eagerly awaited adaptation of Alice In Wonderland.

Teenager Mia Wasikowska is set to hit the big time after being picked to play the heroine in moviemaker Burton's take on Lewis Carroll's classic.

The director is reportedly lining up long-time muse Johnny Depp to play the Mad Hatter in the film, which is slated for release in 2010.

And newcomer Wasikowska, 18, will be treading on the toes of Lindsay Lohan, after the Mean Girls star begged Burton not to choose an unknown for the role, insisting she was "ideal" to play the part.

Wasikowska says, "I'm so so excited. The book's really intrigued me when I was little and I've always loved the story."

For fuck's sake. As well as doing his usual 'look at me! I'm Tim Burton and I'm wierd!' bit which bores the living fuck out of me, it looks like he's planning to clash it on the release schedules with 'Phantasmogoria', the OTHER Lewis Carol/ Alice fucked up biopic that Marilyn Manson's been making for the last three years.

Another case of shallowness, lack of imagination and thunder stealing from mr. Burton.

Im actually kind of excited about this. thats a good thing because hes kind of bored me for the last couple of movies. but hey who knows.

I like the new Alice. I think she might be good for the part... at least, way better than Lohan. I probably wouldn't watch it at all if she played Alice.

Not sure how this is going to turn out. I haven't really enjoyed a Burton film since Beetlejuice or Edward Scissorhands. But I also haven't watched many of the new ones.

Could be interesting. I don't think his shows are mind-blowing, but they are entertaining.

I guess we can expect Helena Bonham Carter to be joining as the Queen of Hearts, or whatever the hell her name is...or maybe a singing flower?

Honestly, she sort of looks like the beginning Alice, she might actually fit the part, if Burton doesn't twist the role in some way.

Remember the video game Alice??

An adaptation... perhaps American McGee's Alice? Burton could do so well with that.
