Tips on acting straight!

You act straight the same way you act presidential or jilted or critically injured - you get inside the role. You ARE planning on confining this to class, I take it?

when you're listening to someone else, don't lift your eyebrows. I know it sounds dumb, but straight guys are never that intrested. Don't use your hands when you talk. Talk slower unless its an emotional setting

Focus on the role, not the "straight aspect" of it. It's not independent.

Lex

Spit and burp and then stare at all the girls bosoms.

I've had the same problem the past few weeks in my acting class. :(

I wouldn't say you should act "straight." Stereotypes aren't always the best way to go either.

Unless you have certain normal habits that are obviously gay then you shouldn't worry too much.

What exactly makes the character straight? How different is it from your normal behavior?

Once you figure out what the script says the character acts like then you can adjust it to fit you better.

My professor constantly says that you make the character your own and not have the script dictate how the role is portrayed.

You are the one portraying the character. You shouldn't be trying to "act straight." It doesn't work that way.

Have you read the whole script so you understand the role you're playing?

That's the best I can give you with the details you gave. "Straight" is too much of a generalization. Hope it's helpful. :D

Most gay guys that I know tend to act flamboyant and feminine. It's all in the mannerisms. Like don't walk with one foot infront of the other. Put more force and power behind your mannerisms. I agree with everyone who said show less expression and emotion because gay guys and women tend to show it more. I don't know. It's hard to describe, but don't think too much into it.

Lol----you don't know too many gay guys do you?

noelie is right.

DON'T move your hands, heads, neck and lips when talking and in a low slow tone.

why does the image of some simplistic ape come to mind when I hear this? This makes straight guys seem stupid. It's horrible and hilarious at the same time. Stereotypes are so stupid lol

So maybe I'm off here, but I'm curious.
Why DO gay guys act differently than straight guys?
I mean, I like guys, but you'd NEVER know it talking to me or being around me unless I told you.
I just act like ME. I don't try to act like anything else. Actually, I HATE it when people don't act naturally. Can't trust 'em, ya know?

So what's up with the different styles or whatever?

Maybe it's hormonal? I don't know

I don't know why that is. Personally I like to go to baseball games, work on my car, build things like shelves and fix things around the house with tools, and yet I also wear pink shirts and rather girly sunglasses and I love to go shopping. I am neither masculine nor feminine. I am... me.

Which I think is cool. As long as people act naturally and not trying to be something they're not, that's cool. (BTW, I had an Asian friend once who could pull off pink shirts--HOT HOT HOT!! wow, I adored him).

I wear tye-dye and some people think that's "gay", but I could give a shit less what they think. That's me and it aint gonna change...for nobody....ever.

Just seems that the "gay sector" has a particular demeanor that people recognize. I don't mean to generalize, but I think y'all know what I mean. I don't undersstand why that is.

......... its like saying that all lesbians are butch and have short spikey hair, but thats not true either :/...........

Funny you mention that.
There's this girl here (not bad looking) who I thought was kind of a bitch when I met her, then I started to think she was pretty cool, then I started to think I might like this girl. And she would mess around with me and say she loved me and stuff, so I thought I had a chance.

Yeah, turns out she's a full-on lesbian.

Hahaha. Just goes to show, ya never know.

I still think she's a cool chick though. She actually works and has a great sense of humor, once you get to know her a little
