I met this guy on okcupid, and we exchange numbers and have been talking past couple days. I was thinking about asking him out to see Titanic 3D. I know its his favorite movie, but do you think a movie is a good first date, or should I see about doing something more exciting?

Have him draw you wearing nothing but the heart of the ocean...

If you took me to see Titanic (in any version) on a first date, there would be no second date. We'd still shag, let's not be silly, but no second date.

In all seriousness, if it's his favourite, he may not want it as a 'date' movie. For first dates, I like activities where the two can talk, interact. As cheesy as it sounds, I love bowling on a first date. Lots of one-on-one time, with something to break-up the 'quite' moments.

Dinner, drinks, and a light activity are what I recommend.

^This is, of course, the best answer.

Movies are generally bad first date ideas, and especially so for something as long as Titanic. That's three hours in the dark sitting next to each other, not interacting. Unless you plan to do some mid-movie groping, choose a date where you two can talk and get to know each other.

I don't think movies of any kind are good on a first date - by themselves at least. That's why the classic "dinner and a show" works.

But on a first date, i'd want to do something that gives me a chance to know the person... so unless the guy is a movie buff and you're going to a hole-in-the-wall theater, it's not really something that has much staying power.

I would go out to dinner first..but that's just me.

Agree. I do think Titanic might be a good 4th or 5th date though. :)

Now all I need to do is drive up the road to Durham. To be honest, Sir ULOM is a lot nearer him. ..|

I'm going to say NO because it's a 3hr+ movie. First date, you want to talk and get to know the guy. How are you going to do that if you have to be silent for 3 hours?

Absolutely NO. It's one of the most boring, cheesy films ever made. If you're asked to keep someones teenage daughter occupied for an afternoon - yes, that's what Titanic is for.
