Since I'm half-deaf anyway, I'd rather go ahead and loose the rest of my hearing, since all my hobbies are sight oriented anyway (I'm a model builder and I can't live without my DVDs). Would hate to loose my surround sound, but at least I could turn on the subtitles.

obviously i would hate to lose either my hearing or my sight but if i had to choose, i'd go blind.

Hmm...

Being blind would mean I could no longer drive, have my job, use the internet...

Being deaf would mean I could no longer hear music, have a normal phone conversation...

My biggest hobby thing (aside from this) is playing Piano, and losing either would pretty much kill that...

If I HAD to choose, I think I would choose to be deaf...

I'm already partially deaf too so losing the rest wouldn't be that HUGE.
Oh, and blind people DO use the internet. My sister is on the internet all the time.

Obviously I wouldn't want to lose either, but I did read once that deaf people are "cut off" from the world more so than blind people. Although clearly being blind would be more of a day-to-day disadvantage (to put it mildly!) Hmmm.... a good question....

i only have 67% of my hearing left... and i know sign language anyways... might as well say screw you to that 67...

My bus route passes by a centre for the deaf and a centre for the blind. I've often pondered this question while observing the passengers travelling to and from these stops.

If I had to lose one, it would be my hearing. The thought of living without sight scares the heck out of me. The thought of living without hearing doesn't.

This thread makes me feel thankful for what I do have and probably take for granted most of the time. I would be devastated in the loss of either, but I think I could still function in life with some normalcy after the loss of my hearing more so than the loss of my sight.

Fine print research - BOOyah

I REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALLY did not want to waste a post replying to the above comment, especially considering my upcoming JUB milestone, but you are trying to be smart, so i have to rebutt you to save face.

Also i sent you the comment on impulse because i didnt want to post a reply but here i am replying. And since i am going to reply might as well address all angles so there can be no counter argument this time even if there is i wont be responding for i have said what i had come to say.

Here goes.

This thread,

http://justusboys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=93538

was started by you, on April 21st, 2006, 07:14 PM.

Perhaps you need to update your calender because today is September 24th, 2006 (i know this because Desperate Housewives season 3 premieres tonight at 9/8c - Check you local listings), by my count thats 5, spell it out, FIVE months since this topic was raised.

Since you like doing research why don't you go and do some research as to how many new members JUB has gained since April 21st, 2006, 07:14 PM.

Offhand im guessing quite a few.

Those new members that joined within the last 5 months may or may not be familiar with the search option that you so fondly adore. As such when i started the topic yesterday some members might have been seeing it for the first time, and if you havent seen it then it will be new to you.

I'm sure you'd agree 5 months and a few hours is a big difference. I started this topic roughly 31 hours ago and its still on the second page of hot topics, so tell me the reason why there needs to be 2 threads dealing with the same exact thing on page 1 and page 2, what the point of that?

Generally what people do when they come to JUB is check page 1 and 2 of hot topics (By the way mr research there is a thread about that also). Some might go to 3 or 4 if they missed a day or two.

But when it gets to weeks and page 145, which is the page # your thread is buried on, then im sure you'd agree that is search option territory and like i said those 5 month old jubbers may not know how to search yet or taken your course on how to do it. Even if they do know how to search what if they never gave sight or hearing any thought before and when they came to JUB 31 hours ago, saw the topic for the first time.

Now when the new members come to JUB they will see the topic twice and then they would say to themsleves, "why do we have 2 threads dealing with the same topic?"

It makes no sense.

Ruby has over 9000 posts and is by no means a newbie. As such you'd think if something interested him like say the topic of sight vs hearing he would have used the search option. Had Ruby used the search option he would have found your thread and my thread, but guess whose thread would pop up first when the search came up? Mine would, and you want to know why? because mine is still on page 2 and yours is on page 145 decompsoing but not to worry though i just put some flowers on it for you and i also weeded the grass around the area, you would be surprized how high the grass grew. No need to thank me as its just the JUB thing to do but i digress.

However, Ruby wouldnt have had to search at all for had he looked on page 2, he would have found the topic.

I wouldnt have pointed out the overSIGHT had it not been the same exact topic. Had Ruby put a different spin on the matter then my lips or in this case fingers would have been stroking my *|* instead of posting in this thread (again).

One other thing, this wasnt your battle to fight, yet you took issue, im guessing because you were the thread started way back in April 21st, 2006, 07:14 PM , however it was Ruby who should have done the research that you did and came up with the 2 threads you found, however if he did that i would have done the same with his reply.

This leads me to the other thread you posted,

http://justusboys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=100406

Now this post was on June 3rd, 2006, 01:48 AM, roughly 3 months ago although not near as ancient as your 5 month old thread.

The difference here, however, is the fact that this June 3rd, 2006, 01:48 AM thread, had you taken the time to read it (but i guess you were just so excited about finding a close match as to make a "point") you would have noticed that even though its in the same ball park there is a twist to what the thread starter is talking about. In the June 3rd, 2006, 01:48 AM thread, the thread starter spoke of and gave 2 options :

Be blind but keep a perfect hearing sense
Be deaf but have the sight of an eagle

My Eye or Ear thread, was just about either or, but mr June 3rd, 2006, 01:48 AM went a lil further and talked about having the "sight of an eagle" whilst i never specified the quality of vision because i'm sure some people would rather any sort of visoion as opposed to none at all.

So though June 3rd, 2006, 01:48 AM and my "Eye or Ear" are in the same ball park technically they are asking different things.

It is one thing to find information, but its quite anither to analyse and interpret such information so as not to come out looking like a complete ___________ #-o .

Well thats that

newboy - if YOU read the boards then you would know that RUBY is not a HE she is very much a lady!

To answer your question Ruby - my love of music would sway me to choose hearing over sight, but hopefully it will be a choice I never have to make.

Common sense tells me that i prefer not to be blind, but my life will be very sad without music...

Is death an option?

Either way, 1 of my favorite activities would be lost. No hearing = no music, I need my music! But no sight = no driving. I need my driving. And for me, when I'm driving the music is there too! I'd go insane!
