Tonsillectomy

So today has been miserable! My throat isn't the problem anymore--the problem is with my ears! The doc said that my ears would be sore since my adenoids were taken out as well. My throat is actually at a manageable pain level but my ears are killing me! And it's even worse when I try to speak. I have a follow up on Monday but hopefully things will be better by then. How are things coming along for you, Antares?

Since everyones recovery is different I kept my mouth shut when you first posted. My recovery was just as you have described and I wished for death on day 2. On the bright side your out of the woods and it only gets better by the day.
I am so very glad I did it, I hardly ever have a sore throat and when I do I dont even realize it because its so mild a feeling. One thing you need to know is now that the tonsils aren't filtering the infections for your body you may have more issues with ear and sinus infections. I get one every winter. blah!

Wow. I got those every winter anyway so now I guess I'll get a double dose...that sucks.

So far today I'm feeling fine. I have a little discomfort in my ears but nothing compared to yesterday. I'm thinking about driving to see family (about an hour away) today but I'm afraid to even try.

I had my tonsils removed when I was 30. I am so glad I did. I have rarely been sick since then. My pain lasted a good 7 days. I could only swallow soup or jello up to that point. I describe the post-surgery pain as no worse than some of the unbelievably excruciating sore throars I had prior to the surgery.

Well, I never had problems with my tonsils in terms of sore throats and all that stuff. Mine were taken out mainly because of some sleep apnea that really isn't that bad of a problem yet, however, the doctor said that it would get progressively worse as I age and it's best to get them taken out now rather than waiting as recovery takes longer the older one is. Prior to surgery I noticed that I was always tired during the day and never seemed to be rested during the day so I'm excited to see the difference after recovery. I'm not able to properly judge my energy level at the moment since my medicine causes me to be very sleepy.

I have a check up tomorrow so I get to see how the doc thinks I'm progressing. Fun stuff!
