Too many effeminate images of black gay men on television

Just watching the first episode of Big Brother Canada out of boredom and there is a flaming black queen as one of the house guests.

There is a regular black guy on Project Runway, you can tell he's gay, but he's not flaming, he's kind of conservative and seems like a nice guy.

Anyone who takes what they see on TV as a realistic representation of gay men(or anything for that matter) is.... well, an idiot.
Sadly, our country is full of idiots :P But I don't believe television characters have a significant negative impact on national approval of homosexuality, rather the presence of so many gay characters(actual famous gay people too) positively influences gay men's choice to come out, and the greatest contributor to acceptance is the everyday (aka not-famous, nothing to do with masculinity or race or anything) gays who have come out and touched their family and friends and changed their minds just by being who they are AND being gay :)

Also this talk about internalized homophobia for not being comfortable with sharing the community table with super effeminate gay men is absurd.
I know a few super-fem-in-your-face-with-a-lapdance gay guys. Do I find such behavior irritating? Yes. Does it mean I dislike them for being GAY? No. Does it mean I dislike their personalities? Yes. I would not be particularly fond of ANY person who is boisterous, showy, and dramatic as in my opinion they show a general lack of a very important quality to me, which is respect. So internalized homophobia? I think not..

^ We're sorry you stopped by.

Obviously you are too much of a coward to even stick around for a discussion on the issue.

...and interesting that you equate the defense of feminine characteristics with wanting to have your dick cut off. I feel sorry for anyone....no matter how 'straight' they may be who happens to get involved with you in any sexual or emotional relationship. You may be many things, but 'normal' is not one of them.

JUB is richer for you leaving so soon.

I don't think anyone said effeminate gay men don't exist, I am disappointed out the over representation of these effeminate gay guys in pop culture.

I mean isn't anyone sick of seeing all those drag queens or RuPaul types in the media?

I think a gay man like Don Lemon don't get the respect they deserve because he isn't effeminate. What's so special about people like Rupaul? In the black community effeminate gay men like RuPaul aren't going to be respected. Everyone who is black knows this. The effeminate gay guys in the black community are seen as a joke not to be taken seriously.

I hope one of the gay NFL players who comes out is a black man I sincerely hope so. I was hoping Kerry Rhodes was gay after seeing the pics of him getting close to his personal assistant but he said he's straight which is disappointing.

You still aren't getting it.

It doesn't matter how butch or how femme any homo is.

Each and every one of them is entitled to respect for the person that they are.

And obviously you aren't getting it, because in the real world effeminate gay men aren't respected.

Effeminate gay men engender negative stereotypes which hurt all gay men.

I don't like it when people make assumptions because a man is gay he must be a freak like a drag queen or a Rupaul type.

The stereotype is all gay men are soft, and talk with a lisp and want to be female.

All I am saying is, there are many gay men who are masculine who do not conform to the exaggerated effeminate stereotype of what being gay is.

And you aren't getting it because you should be spending your time out there fighting for the right for the femme guys to be who they are instead of bitching and moaning about how they are bothering YOU.

You are wrong. In fact many of the femmes are the most respected because they are fearless enough to be the person they are and not cowering and pretending in order to fit in to some narrow definition of what it means to be or behave like a 'man'.

We all know that there are men out here who don't conform to any stereotype.

But that doesn't mean that we kick anyone to the curb because they are either femme or ridiculously butch.

Got it?

Oh trust Kerry Rhodes is gayer than Labor Day... he just doesn't want to miss out getting signed again since he is a free agent at the moment...

I didn't want to go there but you people are still discussing this bullshit.

This is just my opinion so please don't flame.

The media is for the most part run by liberal white people. Liberal white people want to make everyone as happy as possible. A masculine black man is seen as a threat so the only solution is?

To advertise submissive, effeminate black men. Young and old.

White people connect more with a flaming pansy filled black man because he isn't a threat and usually provides comic relief.

Plus it breaks two stereotypes that they don't have to deal with. They are casting a ethnic minority person and a gay person so it kills two birds with one stone.

Lots of soap operas and game shows are casting gay black men like no tomorrow and to be honest I'm getting tired of it. But I can't complain. I'm an effeminate black man myself so I'm shooting my own head. :P
