i am new to the torrent download thing and i have tried my first torrent, it is a sims 2 expansion, now it has downloaded and it came in alot of winrar files, my question is :

do i have to open all the files and run them ( i have done about half of them and they all seem to me like the same thing)

and then how do i install it to my sims 2

thank you in advance

usually multiple files like that are meant to be combined (like they might be .rar1 and .rar2 and .rar3 etc). so you copy all of them into the same folder and then extract the one that is without the numbers after it. usually this will make one uncompressed file that has all the other ones part of it. i don't know what the file will be, it might be an ISO file or a setupfile...what is the main file name on the winrar files?

If you have files like, .rar, r01, r02 etc, you ONLY decompress the rar file.
The rest will decompress along with it.

thank you guys for the replies , the files are bin files and all the rar files opend and made one bin file - pls help

You burn bin/cue files with Nero or any other CD burning software

teh_nathan do you mean when im finnished unpacking the files i must copy it to cd or dvd and then insert the disk and run from "my computer"

/\ i don't think you can just copy the file to a CD and/or DVD. I think you will have to use your burning software (whatever you have like Nero or maybe EasyCD creator or whatever ya got) to burn the image file. it's sorta a special step. it's like buring an ISO file if you've ever done that.

can you tell us what burning software you will be using then maybe we can walk you through how to do it?

you could use the file as a "virtual CD" and not have to burn it to a disk.
here is one program i've been told is easy to use, but i've never used it: http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/download.php?mode=Download&id=81

another one by microsoft, which i've been told is not easy to use is here: http://download.microsoft.com/downl...d58df02efa2/winxpvirtualcdcontrolpanel_21.exe

so i would try this one first.

im using nero 7 and i can use pinnicle aswell

/\ excellent. I think you can follow these instructions to get it to work:

Start Nero Startsmart. Pick "CD" in the drop down box at the top.
From here put your mouse over the icon that says "Copy and Backup" and click it. On the right hand side in the middle you will see an icon that says "Burn Image to Disc". When you click this, It will load up Nero Burning ROM and then bring up the open pop-up box.
Set the "Files of Type" pull down box to "All Files (*.*)". Select your .bin file.
You should get the "Foreign Image Settings" pop-up box.
Type of image: leave that unchanged to Data Mode 1;
Then, very important, select the Raw Data check box. When you do that the Block Size (which is one line below) changes automatically from 2048 to 2352.
Leave Image Header and Image Trailer unchanged and set to 0. "Scrambled" and "Swapped" check boxes should remain UNchecked as well.

I got the above info from a couple of posts here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/15788

hi thank you for all the help but i only get the burn image to disk on nero after that i have problems following the instructions for example there are no foreign image settings and so on, i did try deamon tools but then it says the file might be corrupt or in a different format or something, i have alcohol 120 now do you think i should try that

!oops! i should have removed the old torrent files from my desktop huh? !oops! i ended up canceling them and just got the DVDs from best buy.

you might be right on being too complicated. maybe he can try both and hopefully one will work.

the first pic of nero you posted looks same like mine, but not the rest mike_n_herrin i have nero 7 ultra, do you think i should try premium or something else.

do you think i should try what noelie suggested

You need a .cue file to tell Nero what to do with the .bin file. Did a .cue file unrar with the .bin? If so, open up nero startsmart, on the left side (click the left arrow if you don't have the full pane opened) under applications, launch nero burning rom.

Go to Recorder > Burn Image. Navigate to the dir where you have the .bin and .cue file, and select the .cue file. Put in some blank media and burn it, it's that simple. provided of course you have the .cue file.

I got one that is a .bin and no .cue.
My Nero is 6.6 and I can go until I get to mike_n_herrin's foreign image settings. I can't find it. I bought Nero 7 so am gonna wait til I get it to see how far I can go. Unless y'all can tell me otherwise I'll see what 7 can do for me. Thanks ahead of time

/\ did you try the free thing i mentioned above? it's mentioned in last month's Maximum PC magazine as being a good way to burn ISO images. if you didn't try it and see if it works for you. if it does work and you can cancel your order on nero 7, i would cancel your order.

I looked at it but iso's confuse me more than .bin and .cue. Maybe I need to put on my geek hat and give it a try. thanks

Overnight I found Nero 7.8.5 in a torrent and have installed it. My "tech support" is out of bed now but not awake.
I'm gonna try Nero again per the insts above. and if it won't work will try the iso site again
thanks

Well It looks like nero is gonna burn it but instead of a DVD+R it says insert a CD-R/RW which I put in a CD-R thinking I could, Great something else to confuse me! Now I gotta go out and get some CD-R/RWs. Be back later. Oh yeah the CD-R/RW has gotta be over 700 m](*,)
I may decide Indy Jones is not worth it!
