None of these things shocks me in the sense of being unexpected.

All of them offend my presbyterian Sunday school /Lutheran/Boyscout/family based sense of values to the core...but half of my family lived through WWII in Holland and watched the rise of Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini as well as the moral relativism of the US until Pearl Harbor. So they made me a cynic.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what they expected Americans to do, what we always do-- drown ourselves in frivol (trademark pending) and entertainment. Between Captain America and the Super Sportsball this weekend, I can say for certain that my people won't be protesting. Tomorrow Trump could pardon Derek Chauvin then Musk appoint him Head of Urban Policing Budget department of DOGE and by the time black people catch on all cops will have Iron Man suits with triple-boosted qualified immunity. I have zero faith in the battle of octogenarians vs 20-something software engineers.

Our efforts are futile, they can call all they want.

While DOGE seems to be fumbling the ball and making unforced errors, it is good to bear in mind that behind a lot of these attacks on government are lawyers. And their influence should not be overlooked. In this case we have legal counsel with connections to the SC and we shouldn't assume that there isn't some expectation of injunctions, hearings and pushing things up into the Roberts Court to obtain the rulings they want.

Having said this, it is also good to remember that Trump was badly served by apparently qualified and experienced legal counsel in the first term as well.

I've been quietly optimistic that virtually all of his EOs are going to get chewed up in court. While they have the conviction and a hyper-conservative SCOTUS, they're still incompetent to an extent that confounds all reason. Cocky and dumb are a terrible combination that always spells disaster. But it's going to take me a while that democrats are going to lose time running behind him and challenging him in court for the next 4 years (if he competes his term without going to prison). The 2000s saw so many necessary changes happening, woulda been great to continue that momentum.

I hope dems had a wakeup moment being locked out of govt offices. I almost enjoyed the clips, seeing them experience a fraction of our frustrations.

Canada, if no one else has told you this, I'm sorry. We're better than this, I swear to God. We're better than having a treasury employee whose nickname is *Big Balls.

-proximity to minorities and racism can exist in the same space
-there's a difference between a brown person marrying someone who happens to be white and marrying them because they're white

^ I would say that since the continental Indians can sometimes be the most racist people I have had to deal with...I always enjoy when they are reminded that while they may be Aryan, they aren't considered white in America.

By now I have to think that Vance's woman has a hide as tough as elephant skin as she witnesses time and again, his failure to call out racism against her tribe...but she also knows that unlike the untouchables (everyone but her and Indian billionaires or beautiful Indian spouses of billionaires in America) Indians and Pakistanis have to deal with some of the worst racism in parts of America.

I am sorry America. But the world will be falling out of love with you. After exploiting many countries for their wealth for so long and also being a moral and intellectual leader in the developing world in order to exercise soft power, this is a betrayal of the first order. Not because Trump is killing aid...but because of the abruptness and cruelty in doing it.

USAID funded projects in 120 countries - fighting epidemics, educating children, providing clean water, supporting life saving work. Now nurses laid off, clinics closed in 25 countries where 2/3 of all child deaths occur. All because of Trump’s inflated ego.
