Republican turned Democrat Specter has been defeated.
Democratic Senator bites the dust.

it never ceases to amaze me how much people complain about a lack of bipartisanship in Washington and then vote out every single senator who's willing to compromise to get the job done.
sorry, ignore me... I'm still really upset over Lincoln Chaffee. lol.
Specter was not a Democrat, a Republican, or bi-partisan. He was all for himself.
Like him or not, his constituents were satisfied with his service enough to re-elect him repeatedly for a long time.
Until he showed his true colors and chose himself and his career over them...
That's a very small minded and mean spirited comment.
I'm not a fan of Specter's, but it seems hardly fair to say that his decades of service were somehow not his "true colors".
And it's self serving to ignore the fact that Specter lost in a wave of anti-incumbency that probably had as much to do with anything else, and probably more.
When all you do is bark like a partisan dog it makes it a lot harder to take you seriously.
I didn't say it applied to his previous service. Read my comment again.
I'd like to remind the OP that Specter lost in the Democratic primary. The Democrats haven't lost the seat as yet.
I tripped over an article about this race last week. One analyst said the anti-incumbency factor would be about 2% to 4%. So, from the results I've seen, he would have lost anyway.
Interestingly, one article I skimmed argued he would have won if he'd gone Independent instead of Democrat.
Also worth noting, the special election in Pennsylvania was the only actual election, and the Democrat won that by a significant margin. But that's not enough data to make a more general observation.
