Trans Bathroom Use devolves to Checking Private Parts

Just use the facilities you used before this whole idiotic discussion started.

Not just the adults think they are perverts, but many of the other students will as well. The boys will ridicule them and the girls and their parents as well. The announcement that they are transgendered places them far outside the mainstream of their peers and society in general at a time when they are most vulnerable. As adults they can choose whom they associate with, but in school they are stuck where they are and cannot escape a hostile environment. They are too young to make the life altering decision to live as the opposite sex. They should not be encouraged to make their feelings public at that point in their lives.

So you recommend that teenagers who identify as Trans keep their mouths shut? Sounds like you think they should stay in the closet, and we all know how healthy that is.

As for being too young to make life altering decisions, those who are vulnerable make much more grave decisions like suicide at a much younger age.

Yes they should avoid making themselves outsiders at that young age and while they are not free to choose their own way of life or the people with whom they come into contact.

Edit: I just realized I was meant to post that article in the England thread but had two pages open.

It's not that they can just STFU about it in school, and everything goes forever merrily-ever-after. There are often at least a few hints, as the (few) trans-gendered I've known show at least some hint of mannerisms, preferences, etc. of their second gender. Very often they end up being "outed" by the force of ridicule and innuendo, by their schoolmates - who probably have no idea how much it hurts.

Honestly, that's the stupidest thing I've ever read. Would you tell a gay or lesbian student the same thing? Deny who you are, live a lie. Bugger the pain it inflicts on you or the feelings of isolation?

Don't you think the pain and feelings of isolation will be worse when he announces that he is transsexual? I guess it depends on how certain that he will be accepted as a friend by the other boys. Not at all I would think. After he is out of school it will be different.

Are you gay Benvolio? Do you not remember what it's like to grow up hiding yourself for protection. How on earth do you think locking yourself away and pretending is less painful than being honest.

'Hiding yourself for protection" from what? From the bullying, ridicule and ostracism which would have resulted if it were known you are gay? Expecting to use the girls restroom would have made one a real outsider.
