Trans teen suicide - LeeLah Alcorn

This made me so upset. Please contact Leelah's mother and father and friends and let them know the truth.

You can get their home address, phone numbers for home, cell and work here:

Let her mothers friends on Facebook know that she committed suicide due to her parents neglect!

Her name is not Joshua, it's LEELAH!

Jeez, you sound like her mother.[-X

Poor leelah. I feel sorry for her for not knowing her until she was dead.

Transphobia is as horrible as homophobia was a generation ago. So much poor information

A thread on someone's suicide and you ignore her chosen name because.....?

Tacky at best.

*Parent's shouldn't get automatic respect merely for donating genetic material. Respect also isn't earned by how much money someone spends on a child. Neither of those have much to do with the teaching involved and effort it takes to raise 'em. Equating money with effort is a sad fuckin' thing.

OP didn't ignore her name. He hasn't misgendered him at all. What are you referring to?

I am really disturbed by the hate spewing from some of the posters here. To suggest or encourage contacting a parent who has just lost a child (for any reason) to lambast them and imply that they are the reason the person killed themselves is really reprehensible. I am betting you did not know the decedent, and that you were not privy to his or her mindset before committing suicide.

To say that being a parent only involves providing money for someone's upbringing, that it does not allow them to love their child, is beyond the pale.

This is the best example of why gay men should be allowed to be parents (via adoption or surrogacy or whatever). It is clear that none of you haters have ever been parents.

Shame on you.

No one here hasn't made any implication more than Leelah. Leelah left a note stating that the Parents were a big factor in her depression. From that letter it did not at all give any impression that they loved their child and if they did, they certainly failed at showing that at all.

So sad...youth of today have it worse than ever before....does anyone have compassion for anyone besides themselves....what have we become as a race?

Whereas I'm opposed to contacting the parents purely to condemn them, it is very, very clear that they played a significant (perhaps even determining) role in their daughter's suicide.

That was a post on Reddit made by the girl herself just months before her suicide, and it details the way her parents treated her when she came out to them as trans.

Much like Digital above, I question the love they had for their child.

She was so well articulate and seemed like a very bright individual. It is a real shame she was brought up in a poisoned environment. She deserved so much better.

The difference between us (among the many, obv) is

1. You missed some posts

2. Because you missed posts, you've said some erroneous things

3. I suspect you didn't actually read much of anything besides the fact that she's dead, since she did leave a suicide note and there are her parents' actions and behavior, both previous and current, to base an opinion on.

4. Parents (along with other types of caregivers - really, any group, everywhere) are not some sacrosanct monolith that must be given approval in all things. I've raised children - if anyone is going to go that particular route they'd better not ignore that particular truth in life or they're going to be very, very sorry later.

5. This isn't an example of how gay people should be allowed to be parents. Trans isn't a synonym for gay and in my experience gay people are no more specifically trans friendly than the general population. It isn't even an example of how trans people should be allowed to be parents since I've known both transphobic and rabidly sexist/homophobic/what-have-you trans people. It's an example of nothing but human error in pointing out cause and effect.

*That said, I don't endorse calling the parents. Only bit with you I agree on, as a matter of fact.

^ Not a problem. The post is very conspicuous in its absence. Many of the surrounding texts don't make sense now.

If anything, this is a perfect example of why I am against religious doctrine. Christianity completely fails to teach people to love others and to accept diversity. Instead, it teaches people to hate disguised in politically correct terms, like love the sinner but hate the sin BS.

Even after death, Leelah's parents still refused to accept their daughter. They dressed her in a suit.

I'll die a happy man when all the superstitious nonsense are killed off and we can finally focus on love instead of the hate-filled religious dogma that christians spout.

....Christianity completely fails to teach people to love others and to accept diversity. ...

Diversity completely fails to teach people to love others and to accept Christianity.

I think you might be replacing one religion with another.

You are using the same tactic that creationists use to try to discredit science by trying to tell laymen science is religion.

Unlike religionists, I don't try to teach kids superstition.
