Transfer music to ipod touch

Hey I have a question for all of you -
i have a really old macbook like 10 years old but still working
and my sis gave me a ipod touch a couple of years ago but never got to use it because the two wont sync (macbook has old itunes and because its old cant really upgrade beyond OS 10.6) .

How do I put music in my ipod touch without using itunes - i tried DL through gdrive or email but nothing works.
Please help.

I don't remember what it was called, but I used a program (in this case windows-based, but similar things exist for mac) that was an alternative to itunes for transferring files to ipod/etc
Maybe google "itunes alternatives"? just be sure to research anything before downloading .. make sure it doesn't contain any malware..

I used gtkpod under Linux to add tunes to a friend's iPod nano. There must be similar for Mac.

Because of the obtuse proprietary Apple system, I ended up getting myself a cheap Sandisk Clip Jam player, that supports a number of different audio formats and you can simply write audio files to folders on the device without conversion. The downside is that it only has 8GB internal memory but you can add a micro-sd card as extra storage; and it only indexes 2000 tunes and is a really tiny device with small display, but it meets my remote audio needs.
