And here's a direct Youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZp75fWe-ss

From what I know about Transformers, the original 1980s cartoon is more focused on the robots having human emotions and having more humanity than actual humans. The trailer looks good. The original cartoon robots actually spoke and had their own little community but for the "live action" robots to talk seems like it would be corny. Cartoons and animation in general can get away with a lot of things that live-action cannot.

There's definitely going to be a "terrorism" element to the movie. Also, since there are good and evil robots, I think the movie will show how the humans can differentiate between the good and evil robots, instead of just lumping them in one category. In a way, the "Transformers" are like the Muslims and Arabs that have been discriminated against since 9/11: some are bad people and some are good people. I will definitely be the first to see this movie.

Besides all the special effects, I'm counting on Shia Labeouf's acting talent because the dude has got major skills. I also hope that Transformers is not just another Independence Day and actually digs a little deeper because even though I'm not that familiar with the original cartoon, I know that the cartoon was more than a cartoon. Millions of fans will testify to that. lol

And check out this pic of Optimus Prime on the cover of Empire magazine:

Okay, so the trailer gave me a massive metaphorical geek-boner. It looks seriously awesome in that summer blockbuster kind of way. I'm very anxious to see how Michael Bay and whoever wrote the script adapted the classic story to suit today's moviegoers. I think the success or failure of this movie is going hinge on its ability to appeal both to the nostalgia buffs who will see it just because it's called "Transformers" and the rest of the moviegoing populace who want an actual movie.

On a sidenote, as far as I know, the 'bots are going to talk. They've even cast the same voice actor who played Optimus Prime (the good-robot leader) in the original 80s movie.

While the Transformers did have compassion for the humans, (the autobots at least)

They also had a TOTAL disregard for human life when fighting the Decepticons, in fact there's a few episodes where they had to deal with the consequences of that.

It's moreso the NEW series (that totally blows) Where they're more concerned with anythign BUT the Decepticons...

I like the looks of this trailer... the only thing I don't like is the four legged thing in the desert and Prime's paint job.

I'm with you on Prime's new paint job with the flames, and from the looks of some other photos I've seen, the thing in the desert may be a version of the Beast Wars character Skorponok. If it is, I'm going to be deeply displeased that they're mixing generations in this movie. That and Skorponok was my least favorite Predacon. I mean, if they're gonna put in someone from Beast Wars, make it Waspinator, at least he's comically inept.

Anyhow, all in all I'm still really stoked about this movie.

Metaphorical? :p

here's the pic of Optimus Prime on the Feb. 2007 Empire magazine cover. It hits stand Jan. 2 by the way.

Also, I like Bumble Bee the best. I like how he moves syncopated with the bass in the trailer. HOT! Plus, I've heard that he's the underdog and that's just like me. haha

I'm not a fan of the way Optimus looks... It seems as though they tried to make the transforming more complicated than it actually is... though the movie does look kick-ass... I'm excited!!!

The new Empire magazine is already out...

The worry about this film is that they appeal too much to either (i) people like me who were kids when it was on the TV (and had the toys) or (ii) a new audience. They need to strike the right balance.

Plus, Michael Bay is a total hack who hasn't made a decent movie since The Rock 10 years ago!

I have to completely Disagree with you. "The Island" was a very good movie and no, no, no, no..."The Rock" blew.

I'll grant you that the Island was a great premise, but it disappeared up its own arse halfway through, when they had to turn it into another brainless action film. Probably the same as will happen with Transformers.

And I make no claims to The Rock being brilliant, more that its "decent".

So can someone please explain to me why this movie is such a big deal?
