NO, I do not agree with that! Sure there are some drags queen hookers who may "roll" a punter or two but too say that cross dressers as a whole "spoil homosexual reputation" is drawing a very long bow indeed.

Whilst media attention may be given to the odd high profile drag queen or transvestite who has committed some earth shattering misdemeanor, the majority of transvestites never come to the attention of the public or the police.

hunky, this is a truly difficult but challenging thread.

i think i must agree with you on the "hookers question/comments."

on the topic itself - transvestites - having never had any contact with one at any time that i am aware of, i just do not feel qualified in any way to give a satisfactory response.

maybe if i had known someone who was or had any contact with those who are i could give a more intelligent comment.

there is a documentary called Paris Is Burning - which deals with the "drag queen balls in N. Y. which does in many ways touch on this subject matter along with transexuals etc. It is superbably made. But i must tell you i found it to be one of the saddest films and commentary on one aspect of human behaviours that to me was most unsettling. I did not find one moment of joy in that entire film - and yet it is a brilliant piece of documentary film makeing that i think everyone should see - homosexual, transvestite, transexual, gender identification issues, etc. It effects everyone in one way or another.

Also, I am not the best person to speak on the behalf of Transexuals. I have not gotten an operation and will most likely not ever get one. I simply value that feelings of my family over my own.

In fact I can think of a few who not only would kick your ass for making such a suggestion, there are some that I know who would say that Homosexuals get so much attention no one bothers to give most Transvestites/Transsexuals the time of day.

I have to say, after coming out when I was 16, I found myself closer to Transvestites than gay men, simply becasue the Transvestites I knew were real and very loyal friends. Transvestites encounter enough hate on a daily basis, and yes, at times may be involved in several indiscretions with the law, however it's because they were only trying to defend themselves from a hate crime, not because they wanted to steal a wallet. Many of their families disown them and throw them out on the street, and their friends are few and far between due to the prejudice they encounter everyday by people...especially in the gay community. Survival is instinctive, and if pulling in a trick or two keeps them of the street, then so be it, since most employers won't give them a chance.

If not your friends, I truly hope you change your opinion overtime.

Perhaps I don't understand your definition of a transvestite. Many transexuals have turned to prostitution in the past to fund their operations.

Are you just refering to crossdressers( which would encompass Transvestites and Drag Queens), Refering to the Transgendered in general or actual transvestites who enjoy acting like a woman for various reasons but have no interest in changing their genetic sex.

But to answer your question, NO: not all transvestites or transsexuals are hookers, nor are they all criminals. There are a lot of hookers who are transvestites and transsexuals, but they are not the majority, or even a significant chunk, of either the trans population or the hooker population. It's a specialized subset for a specialized taste. And they have nothing to do with the "gay reputation." There's no such thing as a "gay reputation."

Actually, I'm being a bit harsh. In certain celebrity circles it's becoming chic to be gay. But that's an incredibly small part of Western culture, and in 99.9% of social circles it's a stigma to be homosexual.

this is nuts. There are men who cross-dress for some entertainment type reason (drag queens) and men who cross-dress because they want to be a girl (transgendered) and maybe those who cross-dress for some other reason. ?

In any event, these men have almost zilch to do prostitution. Most prostitutes are straight women. Perhaps straight women are bringing down the reputation of the heterosexual community?? LOL

The reality is that those guys who want to put on a dress for any reason should have the freedom to do so, and I really don't think they commit any misdemeanor offense. I admire transgendered people because they have so much rejection/lack of acceptance to deal with. I'm proud of them.
