Trick or Treat? For Many Britons, the Reply Is Neither

I hate Halloween and "Trick or Treat." I like my Tricks to be my Treats. This is one American custom the British should well leave alone.
 
I didn't mind giving out treats to very young kids. However, the greedy teenagers got on my nerves. Three years ago a trio of obnoxious teen girls, without costumes, showed up at my door and started grabbing whatever candy they could from my bowl when I answered. Never again! Ever since, I abandon the house on Hallowe'en evening and leave all the lights out.
