Can anyone shed some light??^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Why do the various programs/scans not find and remove?

I've used Norton, AVG, Windows Care. Is there something else that would be successful?

go to:
start program then,
Accesories, then
System Tools, then
System Restore, then

back date your system to the date when you had no problem before.

This works for me ......
 
some system files are protected and you have to restart in safe mode to try and get rid of an infection that is infecting a system file or folder. other times the bad guys "hide" out in the system restore folder so that even if you get rid of the file else where you become reinfected. in those cases you have to turn off system restore (which clears your restore point), then run the antivirus/antispyware software again in safe mode and remove anything it finds. then you can reboot as normal and turn system restore back on.

You could try Spywareterminator - there's a free download and it is said to be very good. Unlikely though that anything is actually there - C\Program Files\Yahoo\NSS\SBTEDef.idx is the database file for the spyware scanner in your Yahoo toolbar - one of your other progs is probably recognising the definition and thinking there is a trojan there - most likely AVG

I think you're right, atkiboy, -there's nothing there.
Ran Spyware terminator and it found nothing but a few cookies and useless shortcuts.
Does it actually do a virus scan? Couldn't see how to select that in the choices, so did custom scan of the Yahoo/NSS file.
AVAST found/identified the suspect file(s) in the first place......a case of mistaken identy, I guess!
