Trump Begins the Cozying up to Russia

Trump averts WWIII is more fitting. But hey, lets make that sound like a very bad thing right?

Uh right.

Just like Neville Chamberlain averted WWII by appeasing Hitler.

How did that all end again?

Nothing would have stopped Hitler. He was a maniac and it's no surprise he repeated the mistake made by the Mongols, the Turks, and Napoleon. Nobody invades Russia and gets away with it. That includes the US. I don't think there will be a WWIII, at least not in terms of reducing Russian territory.

No.

It is the opposite. In every one of the Baltic countries we travelled in a few years ago...just like the fear when we were in Ukraine about 5 years ago, there is a feeling that Russia is basically looking to re-annex some of its 'lost' territories.

Trump basically trashing the NATO alliance, telling these countries they can fend for themselves.....and the fact that he wasn't even apparently aware that Russia had unilaterally seized Crimea are dangerous signals to the Putin regime that they can run roughshod over the rest of the Ukraine and eastern Europe and Trump will just stand by and let them.

The West expanded its sphere of influence at Russia’s expense, and Russia is now retaliating. That’s why the “Ukraine Crisis Is the West’s Fault,” according to John Mearsheimer.

How World War III Could Begin in Latvia

It's an interesting perspective, but nobody is calling Putin rational. In either case NATO is stuck between a rock and a hard place, releasing pressure on Putin is not going to release his finger from the trigger, but maybe increased NATO presence is giving him the excuse to pull it if he feels "invaded."

During the Czarist and Cold war years, substantial Russian populations moved into Ukraine and other East Euopean countries. Putin regards some of these ares and Crimea as natural Russian territory. He objects to the West meddling in Russias "internal" affairs. The big question is what other areas does this reasoning apply to?
He felt free to challenge Obama, as Carter was challenged when they went into Afghanistan, but I doubt if he will take that chance with Trump. Weakness invites attack strength deters it.

Is that a bad thing?

Trump cozying up to Russia? What would Clinton have done... started bombing already?

It means that NATO would be less likely to cite Article V if Putin sets foot in the Baltic states and thus unravel 70 years of progress towards European unity. It is Putin's wet dream.

Thanks for clarifying that for me. I definitely do not trust Putin .... but then I can't actually think of a current world leader who I do trust.

Racist and sizist.

Obama does not look like an orangutan [-X ... tame or otherwise .. and the correct term for Putin's stature is 'restricted growth'.
Don't you dare make a similar comment about Obama's appearance; libs will screetch to high heaven. Anti white racism os good, other is the ultimate sin.

Yeah.

Hitler thought that Poland and the Sudetanland really were German and didn't like the idea of anyone meddling then either.

You think Trump is strong? Are you kidding? Did you see him cave when he actually had to turn up in Mexico and meet the president?

Justin Trudeau!

I wish it was practical by making him MY leader, by moving there. Barriers are virtually impossible to negotiate, and I'd be forced to work until I drop dead, in order to be in compliance, or get kicked out when I'm old and frail...

This is not a Trump thing. I've wanted to move to Canada for at least 9 or 10 years.

And MUCH longer, if spending most of my life wishing that I "had been born Canadian," counts.

I guess if you don't trust anybody then it's arbitrary. In the 1000 years preceding WWII, the powers of Europe constantly turned over their allies, and we all know how well that went for them. It was a constant state of war.

He rescued us from a grim, hateful, existentially meaningless Conservative hellscape.

When he signed the Free Trade agreement with Europe last week, we saw the realization of another part of his father's mission to shift the axis from only being north/south to being between Europe and Canada.

Because of his mother and a trip to Nepal, some of our dearest friends in this lifetime were able to emigrate to Canada and have contributed 1000 times as much on an international scale as the ugly, nasty racists who populate this site.

I would lay down my life for Pierre and Maggie's boy.

Justin Trudeau!.
We don't have proper Liberal politicians like that in UK. :( We've just got May and her loathsome fat-cat-loving poor-hating Tory cronies on the Right, and the utterly useless Corbyn and his vile gang of anti-Semitic Islamophilic PC Nazis on the Left. Supposedly we still have a Liberal Democratic Party, but you don't hear much about them these days and hardly anyone seems to know or care who the leader is.

The UK really needs a Trudeau-esque figure to attempt to pull this country together and defeat the main two parties destructive divide-and-rule tactics.

Obama showed a lot more sincere hatred in his Oval Office pic with Bibi than in this pic with Putin.

But then, I bet he didn't tell Bibi's deputy that he would have more flexibility after the election.

And for crying out loud, what is with the sudden concern about Russia from the Leftists here at JUB? I am sure that Canada's military will keep the Russians at bay.

Just don't move to the west if you like Trudeau, because he hates the west, and it shows... like when he cracked a Star Wars joke before addressing the forest fire catastrophe in Fort McMurray, AB... then there's the time he told an Alberta MP that "we're not in Alberta" (with a smug grin) when a valid issue that affects Alberta (and the rest of the west) was brought up.

Then again, when you live in the west, you're used to being marginalized by the Canadian government, and being hated by the rest of Canada... so I shouldn't be surprised.
