[Trump fights for LGBTQ rights around the world] But the left is already hampering the efforts because...Trump is a Republican.

"
...This month, triggered by the Iranian execution, the Trump administration – spearheaded by the openly gay U.S Ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell – announced a new initiative aimed at bringing an end to the criminalization of homosexuality worldwide.

“The United States continues to work to protect and defend human rights for all. Governments have an obligation to ensure that all people can freely enjoy the universal human rights and fundamental freedoms to which they are entitled,” a State Department spokesperson told Fox News this week. “Working to advance longstanding U.S. policy around human rights is the kind of work our Ambassadors do all around the world every day.

LGBTQ groups condemn Trump administration’s campaign to end criminalization of homosexuality worldwide as stunt (Fox News; February 28, 2019)

Please show us proof that he has done ANYthing except undermine the LGBTQ community in the United States since he became president. He made all sorts of promises during his campaign and gathered a lot of LGBTQ support including Jenner, but they all discovered their mistake far-too-late and have distanced themselves from Trump. He has taken away more rights than he has given, even if he had taken away just one single right.

So, again, please offer one single item of Trump's support for the LGBTQ in the United States. (I can supply lots of evidence of the damage he has done.)

Just one.

Oh, and just how is the left hampering his efforts?

often times what Trump says he'll do and what he actually does are not the same

Clueless.

Trump subsequently disavowed any knowledge whatsoever about this when asked about it.

This was not official Trump policy. If anything, it was a tiny cudgel being wielded by a single Ambassador.

But you know one leader who did tackle it head on? Xavier Bettel.

Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel has insisted that "saying nothing was not an option" after he challenged Arab leaders over anti-gay laws in the region during a summit this week.

After all the things that TrumpCo. has done in the US to undermine LGBTQ rights and security....it is too fucking ironic that anyone in his regime would be lecturing other countries.

What, exactly, has Trump done to undermine LGBTQ rights and security? And sources please.

Believe it or not, I've actually engaged with a far RWNJ case on one of my other politics boards that believe Trump is rainbow flag waving gay rights lover just on the few throwaway lines that he tossed out during the campaign and his appointing the German Ambassador. So this could damage him some with his base.

Of course, that guy is such a nutter that even the far religious right folks who make up most of the board laugh at him. I've often wondered being so vehemently anti-gay as he is who he votes for other than Trump?

The ambassador may be invested in a pro LGBT internationally, but people like Pompeo on board with this primarily want to use it as a weapon against Iran. The Trump administration is at best indifferent and on many occasions hostile to LGBT rights. They certainly aren't going to press the Saudis and other preferred allies who are just as bad if not worse than Iran when it comes to LGBT issues. Trump even disavowed knowing about this policy when asked about it, as was previously mentioned... he needs to hold on to his true believers, and going soft on LGBT issues is such a bridge too far when it comes to his base I don't think it is in his DNA to suddenly get principles... everything is calculated to how it best helps/flatters him.

I'm glad you added that highlighted bit. I was going to correct you. ;)

I've been unable to find a news report of this online. Would someone provide a citation?

Thanks.

Grenell, when challenged on the very problematic actual policies the Trump administration has pushed that go against the LGBT community replied, "Save the other fights for later".

However, when we are supposedly taking the lead to decriminalize homosexuality around the world, and the administration(especially Trump and Pence) don't give a shit about basic rights for us here at home, this whole campaign is hypocritical and just lacks any credibility, any standing. But then again, when Americans first took hold of leading the free world after WWII, black Americans were second class citizens subject to the worst kinds of discrimination, especially in the South but many areas in the rest of the country... because of poll taxes and other odious barriers, even routinely denied the right to vote they had won after the civil war with the 15th amendment. We have lofty ideals, but too often fall far short in practice. Here it is particularly egregious in how outrageous an administration so opposed to our rights yet tries to wave the rainbow flag globally... but we all know it is mainly because of Iran. Saudi Arabia executes gays too and Trump's good buds with them... you think he's going to press his good friends there to stop hating on the gays? All his autocrat friends are no friends of the LGBT community, in fact.

Back in June of 2017, six members of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA) resigned, citing President Trump's lack of interest or strategy to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Trump "simply does not care," they wrote. Later that year, in December, without warning, Trump fired the remaining 16 members, "via a letter from FedEx."

I wonder what idiots he's going to hire to replace those people? I wonder if Joe the Plumber is available? And the Naked Cowboy in NYC would certainly make an eye-opening spokesperson.

The military ban, for one.

Here's your source: https://www.google.com/

Trump makes his true feelings known with the comments he supposedly makes off-camera ("They all live in huts."). I don't remember him ever saying anything overtly anti-gay. I don't think he has as much trouble with the LGBTQ community as, say, anti-Nazi protesters who get run over and killed by hillbillies. I'd even go as far as to say that he doesn't have an issue with gays at all...as long as they're white.

There is no constututional "right" to serve in the military.
